Teacher: Brydie Pye

Background Information
Date: 9/14/15

School: Cleveland Elementary

Grade Level: 2nd Grade

Lesson Focus: To assess the students physical level

of ability so I can see what degree of difficulty I
should make the activities.
Also see how developed their locomotor skills are.

# Of students: 20

Equipment and Facilities:

-1 green poly spot
-1 red poly spot
-1 yellow poly spot
-25 soft balls
-6 hula hoops

Safety Considerations:
-Students running into each other. I will warn the
students before the activity to watch where theyre
going and to keep their eyes up. If they get hurt then I
will get Ms Monique to one of the helpers.
-The students getting dehydrated. I will give plenty of
water breaks throughout the lesson to prevent this. If
a student does seem hydrated then I will get them
water and place them in the shade, and have
someone keep an eye on them.

Lesson Specifics
Behavioral Contingencies:

Student
Objectives:

Psychomotor (P): SWBAT use different locomotor skills while they are playing a game.
Students will be working as a team and being competitive. Students will be
running/skipping/galloping around, so they need to make sure they are watching where they
are going so they dont run into each other. Students will be respective of their classmates
space.
Cognitive (C): SWBAT focus on doing their locomotor skills while trying to get as many eggs
in their nest (multitasking). Students will need to figure out a way to get as many eggs into
their nest. SWBAT relate the colors green, red, and yellow to a stop light and real life.
H-R Fitness (H):
SWBAT do 30 minutes of activity. SWBAT understand the concept that sport makes you
healthy and fit which leads to a longer and better life. The students will also see that activity
is fun and enjoyable.

Instant Activity:
To start off the lesson we are going to
play a game called red light green
light yellow light. After I tell you to,
you all are going to stand up and
spread out across that line (point to
it). I am going to be standing at the
other end of the line holding up three
different colors. When I hold up a
green poly spot you run because
green means go! When I hold up a
red spot you stop and freeze. When I
hold up a yellow spot you walk. Does
everyone understand?
Students will then stand up and

I will tell the students that it is time
for a water break and tell them to

to sit on the white line facing me.
Set Induction:
During this lesson we are going to
play a really fun game that involves
different movements that all of you
can do.
Purpose:
This lesson is important because you
need to be able to do basic
movements to play different sports.
Also, we are playing this game
because then you all can see that
doing physical activity is good for the
body and fun!

Lesson Core - Task 1:

The students will be put into 5
groups. Each group will have a hula
hoop and then there will be a hula
hoop in the middle of the groups
which has soft balls inside. The hula
hoops are considered the nest, and
the soft balls are considered the
eggs. Everyone in each group will
have their own number from 1-4 and
I will call two numbers at once and
those numbers will try to get as many
soft balls from the middle hoop into
their own teams hoop. After a short
amount of time Ill call other
numbers. When the balls from the
middle go then the teams can start
stealing from the other teams. The
goal is to have the most amount of
soft balls in your teams hoop at the
end of the game.

3. Values physical activity

for health, enjoyment,
challenge, selfexpression, and/or
social interaction.
I will explain in my set
induction that physical
activity is fun as well as
good for the body.
1. Exhibits responsible
personal and social
behavior that
respects self and
others.
When playing this
game the students will
need to respect others
space and watch out
for everyone while
theyre running around.
2.Values physical
activity for health,
enjoyment, challenge,
self- expression, and/or
social interaction.
When the students are
playing the game they
will have fun running
around and being
competitive, while
interacting with their
classmates.
3.Assess and maintain a
level of physical fitness
to improve health and
performance.
The students will be
running around a lot
therefore they will be
maintaining a level of
physical fitness which

is helping improve their
health and
performance.

What is the goal of the game?

-To get as many eggs in your groups
nest.

Teaching Cues for Task 1:

You run, stop, reach down,
pick up a ball, get back up,
turn and run back to your
groups hula hoop, drop the
ball in your hoop.
Common Errors Task 1:
1. Students not hearing the
right number and either
going when its not their
turn, or not going when it
is their turn.
2. Students stealing eggs
from other teams nests
when there are still eggs
left in the main nest.
3 mins

Transition:
After the students have stopped the
game and counted who has the most
eggs in their nest, then I will send the
students over to the water fountain
for their next water break. When they
return I will tell them to get back into
their groups at their teams nest.

movement concepts,
principles and strategies
that apply to the
learning and
performance of
physical activities.

Demonstration Plan:
I will demonstrate skipping, and then
I will demonstrate galloping.

Students will be using

movement concepts skipping and galloping
during the game.

Questions to Check Understanding

What movement are we starting the
game with?
-Skipping
Ask students to demonstrate how to
gallop.

Applies knowledge of
concepts, principles,
strategies and tactics
related to movement and
performance.
Students will need to use
strategies and tactics to
come up with how they can
get as many eggs into their
nest.

Adaptations
To make this activity harder I will
make a rule that before the students
can grab a ball from the middle hoop
they will need to do five jumping
jacks. (Same for task 1 except they
will be running)

Teaching Cues for Task 2:

When skipping take one
step forward and then hop
on that same foot. Then do
the same with the opposite
foot. Always moving
forward.
When galloping take a
step with one foot and then
bring the other foot right
behind it, with a small hop.
Continue this sequence.

To make the activity easier I will get

the students to skip to the middle
hoop but run back to their team
hoop.
To make Task 1 easier I will let the
students walk instead of run.

Common Errors Task 2:

1. Students mixing up
skipping and galloping.

Transition:
This transition will be for the
students to put the equipment away. I
will tell each group to put away what
they have in their hoop, and when
everyone has put away their own
hoop then I will get them to
collectively pick up the middle hoop.
Once the equipment has been put
away I will tell the students to sit
down on one of the white lines and to
be quiet.
CLOSURE:
Review:
Can anyone tell me what skills we
learned today? (skipping, galloping).
Can someone show me how to skip
and gallop? Does anyone know
which animal gallops? (A horse)
Did everyone have fun today? (Yes
hopefully!)
Next lesson we are going to do
underhand throwing, so everyone be
prepared to use your muscles!
Bye everyone!

ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES:
-When the students are running in the instant activity and the first task I will informally assess their running by
watching each student run.
-In the second task I will watch the students skip and gallop and make mental notes on how effectively they are
doing it.
8

Tiger Pride
Lesson Plan 9/14/15

-When I do my closure I will get a random student to show me and the class how to correctly skip and gallop.
This will be an individual assessment on the child as well as a general assessment on the class.
