Visual Culture & Social Justice

The Big Idea is to get the kids interested in the visual world and how to react of the social
justice. It will start in the elementary school and goes till middle school. Visual images have
become more ubiquitous and more influential in the everyday life of people all ages (Hurwitz,
2007). It starts with the media and all influential martial such as Internet, magazine, computer
games, and billboards were kids are confronted every day. We as teacher have the responsibility
to teach the kids to analyze the meaning and motives of the commercial imagery, because kids
can be target for Commercial and political influence (Hurwitz, 2007).
I personally liked our last project the Material Means it is a good way to show kids how to
use every day material what we can have around the house or have a easy excess to. It is very
important to show kids to be more responsible for the environment, however sometimes we
have no choose and have to be consumed from the media. Roland Barthes he express meaning
and analyzed many kinds of textsin popular culture, including fashion, wrestling, and
advertisements (Barrett, 2003). He call it denotations and connotions it mens a indication or
believe in something. For example a add shows us food with vegetable, meat, and sauce and
emphasize it will be healthy fresh home made food. It will start at early age for instant in
kindergarten they know exactly what belongs to them or to adults because they can differential
between two values. The kids look at visual perception and get the idea it belongs to them.
