USES FOR NGT


Students:

Group speaking and writing activity.


Allows all members of the group to participate and give a
short speech on their ideas.
Can be used to solve a problem such as how can we
combat Global Warming and then write an essay using
the top 3 ideas.
Can be incorporated into a grammar exercise by use
conditionals in their speech such as if people cycle more
it will reduce vehicle pollution.

USES FOR NGT


Teachers:

Staff brainstorming session


Allows all members of the group to participate
Can be used to solve a crucial problem such as what
theme should we have for the Xmas Party?
Or to discover the top 3 grammar and vocab games
teachers play in order to compile a how to guide
Or to discover an area for future staff development

HOW TO DO IT?
Step 1

Get into groups of 4 or 5

Step 2

Hand out 3 post it notes each

Step 3

Pose a question to the group

Step 4

Write down 3 ideas each briefly on the post-its

Step 5

Each person sticks their post-its on the wall

and explains each one. NO discussion at this


point. Each person gets their time to speak.

Step 6

Group ideas together to pare down notes


ensuring all members ideas are still properly

represented.

Step 7
Vote. Write your votes anonymously on a new
post it note.
Give each member 6 votes to use on 3 ideas.
(3 for top idea, 2 for second best, 1 for third best)
One person collects the votes and transfers the
scores onto each idea.
Add up the votes to determine the top 3 ideas.
Remove (or separate) all the other ideas.
