First Week of School Plan Reflection

The First Week of School Plan activity that I completed was a first attempt at the important

planning, rules, and procedures that must be laid down and established during the first week of the

school year. It is very important for your students to be aware and understanding of what is expected of

them. After rules and procedures are given and explained in a positive manner, content must be

introduced. This is a key and vital time to create a fun, interesting initial approach to what they will

learn that year or semester.

The INTASC Standards within this assignment are Standard 1: Content Pedagogy, and Standard

7: Planning. Content pedagogy is supported through the way I had to make sure that a structured

discipline within the classroom was successfully set up and a positive, effective learning environment

was established. Standard 7, or Planning, was displayed through the carefully thought out schedule and

agenda that I had to develop as a guide and map through the initial week of school.

These implications will be vital to my future teaching as planning and structure must be part of

the recipe of success in the classroom. Knowing where you are headed and having the class understand

what is expected of them will give you a smooth transition into the year and a strong, safe learning

environment.
