SUPERCAPACITORS BY NANOTUBES:

Super capacitors that can deliver a strong surge of electrical power could be manufactured from
carbon nanotubes. These are electrical storage devices that can deliver
a huge amount of energy in a short time. Hybrid-electric and fuel-cell
powered vehicles need such a surge of energy to start, more than can
be provided by regular batteries. Super capacitors are also needed in
a wide range of electronic and engineering applications, wherever a
large, rapid pulse of energy is required. Conventional, or "Faraday"
capacitors, store electrical charges between a series of interleaved conducting plates. Because of
their small size, the nanotubes provide a huge surface area on which to store and release energy.
The new devices can produce a power density of 30 kilowatts per kilogram (kW/kg), compared
with 4 kW/kg for the most advanced devices currently available commercially.

Volvo Solar Pavilion

Electric cars are great for the environment but sadly they have a limited range and
its difficult to find a place to charge them in the middle of a journey. The
Volvo Solar Pavilion is a flexible pavilion that has numerous solar panels on its
surface. The pavilion connects to the car just like any power outlet and uses
solar power to charge the cars battery. Once the vehicle is charged, the
pavilion can be folded up and stored in the boot of the car. The Volvo Solar
Pavilion is a great solution to the problem of limited range which every
electric vehicle faces.

Rubber Sheets that Generate Electricity to Power Cell Phones

rubber films that are able to produce electricity. Using these films it would be possible to power
different portable devices such as players and cell phones by simply making body movements
like walking or breathing. It can easily convert mechanica The latest invention of engineers at
Princeton University represents special l energy into electrical one. For example, these rubber
sheets can be fixed on shoes, thus the wearer of such shoes will be able to power gadgets while
walking or running. Scientists from Princeton University are the first who managed to
successfully mix silicone and nanoribbons of lead zirconate titanate (PZT). The latter is a
ceramic material able to produce energy whenever pressure is applied to it. It can convert about
80 percent of the mechanical power into electricity.

Jay Leno Restores 100-Year-Old Electric Car

Jay Leno, an avid car enthusiast, owns a fully restored Baker Electric car that was originally built
in 1909. Proving that good ideas can be found by rediscovering a past invention, like the Einstein
Refrigerator, the Baker Electric car was an idea ahead of its time. The crank less, gas-free,
emissions-free, maintenance-free and quiet Baker was invented by Walter C. Baker of Cleveland,
Ohio and was powered by alkaline batteries invented by Thomas Edison. Jay still uses the
original Edison batteries. The Baker can travel approximately 100 miles before recharging,
which is about the same as modern electric cars, although top speed is only 25 mph. Before
Henry Ford began mass producing inexpensive gas cars, electric cars such
as the Baker accounted for about 38% of the U.S car market.

New technique for generating electricity

Research scientists have demonstrated a new technique
for generating electrical energy. The new method can be
used in harvesting energy from mechanical vibrations of
the environment and converting it into electricity. Energy
harvesters are needed, for example, in wireless selfpowered sensors and medical implants, where they could
ultimately replace batteries. In the future, energy
harvesters can open up new opportunities in many
application areas such as wearable electronics.

Brain death. The brain can live for 4 to 6 minutes without oxygen, and then it begins to

Blind people dream. Dreams are more than just visual images, and blind people do

University of York in northern England.

Beethoven and Bergman Rise early, work until midday, take a break
Like Maya Angelou, a common thread among brilliant
thinkers and creative visionaries is an early, powerful start
to the day. Ludwig van Beethoven, Ingmar Bergman (a
Swedish director/writer/producer), and all of these writers
kept the same schedule for decades: waking up before
8AM, working until midday, and then taking time for a
meal and for Beethoven, a long walk or for Bergman, a
short nap.

Edward Lawry Norton

Edward Lawry Norton (28 July 1898, Rockland, Maine28 January 1983, Chatham, New Jersey)
was an accomplished Bell Labs engineer and scientist famous for developing the concept of the
Norton equivalent circuit. He attended the University of Maine for two years
before
transferring to M.I.T. and received a S.B. degree (electrical engineering) in 1922. He received an
M.A. degree from Columbia University in 1925.Although interested primarily in a
communications circuit theory and the transmission of data at high speeds over telephone lines,
Edward L. Norton is best remembered for development of the dual of Thevenin's equivalent
circuit, currently referred to as Norton's equivalent Circuit. In fact, Norton and his associates at

AT&T in the early 1920s are recognized as some of the first to perform pioneering work
applying Thevenin's equivalent circuit and who referred to this concept simply as Thvenin's
theorem. In 1926, he proposed the equivalent circuit using a current source and parallel resistor
to assist in the design of recording instrumentation that was primarily current driven. He began
his telephone career in 1922 with the western Electric Company's Engineering Department,
which later became Bell Laboratories. His areas of active research included network theory,
acoustical systems, electromagnetic apparatus, and data transmission. A graduate of MIT and
Columbia University, he held nineteen patents on his work.
Norton died on January 28, 1983 in Chatham, New Jersey.

STUDENT VOICE [EEE]

I am privileged to be a part of this college. Its really exciting working with equipment of such a high
standard. I choose BAPATLA WOMENS ENGINEERING COLLEGE because of high level results and
excellent reputation of staff. I enjoyed every minute of my time at the college. The study skills sessions
will support us at whatever level we need, whether its getting back into learning after a break, or
stretching into the next level. I am placed in IBM COMPANY because of excellent support from the
faculty of the college.

BWEC, a professional-education institution for women students. It is a good place to meet like- minded
people and learn and grow together. The campus community forms a close knit group and you make
friends for life here. The campus, the people and this life has made a stronger and confident person. If
someone were to ask me what truly sets BWEC apart, my answer would be the freedom that the students
are given and the trust that the authorities have in us. The college festivals are planned and executed by
the Core Teams (comprised entirely of students) at the behest of the Students club - which oversees all
student activities. The holistic development of the students would ultimately bolster
women empowerment. It is an expression of our ideas. It symbolizes the spirit of collective
endeavor guiding the Institute to confront the challenges of the present and define the shape of the future.
The entire environment is planned to give a conducive atmosphere for a holistic learning to focus on the
development of personality as a whole. It makes sure that there is something in the campus from Cultural
to Sports to Technical through one of the institute's pillar of strength.

Our college is facilitated with good faculty. Our principal madam is very docile towards all the students
and staff .we learn how to behave in a dignified and well mannered ways in the society along with
education. Our staff encourages the students by conducting many curricular events to develop our
communication skills which motivate all the students that we can do anything. They provided us
platforms to prove ourselves .we are provided with outstanding lab facilities along with experienced staff.
So we are thankful to our management and staff.

I treated engineering colleges for girls separately because of their status and admission priority.
Our college provides excellent facility for women. Campus life gives us complete freedom to
either pack it up in routine filled with activities we choose to do, that might be fun, or the
activities we wish to do for our own growth. Here, at BWEC, there are diverse peer groups that
team up to innovate in any field be it technical, cultural or social service. This is what I believe
differentiates our campus from others.
