TRANSLATOR S NOTE
Om Sri Gurubhyo Namah! Sri Maha Periva Thiruvadigal Charanam
I did them and they were hung on the walls there on His Jayanthi day as planned. He
blessed me there with the 'Pattu Angavasthram' with which Sri Seshadri Swamikal's photo
was decorated during the homam and puja. Memorable day for me.
Because of his blessings only, I have completed 69 portraits and I am sure I will be able
to complete 108 with his and MahaPeriva's anugraham.
I welcome your feedback on this compilation. I can be reached on beeyen.bala@gmail.com

Chapter 1 of Anbe Arule by Sri Narayanan Bala (original in Tamil by Sri Baraneedharan)
The light is not enough there. Come here near the lamp and read.
I went near Him. My shaking increased. I was sweating due to the anxiety.
The light was very dim from the small lamp; that too, the jyothi was not steady and
was shaking. My own writing was not fully legible to me. It took more than a minute
for me to bend my back and keep the papers in a suitable angle and start reading.
Swamikal who understood my struggle waited patiently.
I started reading. My voice broke, and became hoarse and inaudible. I thought that
some one else was reading. When I turned my attention to my hoarse voice, I had to
cough and adjust my throat and so, the words came out dissected and I was worried.
As if these were not enough, my attention was drawn to something else; Swamikal was
singing in a very light tone. I do not remember now whether it was a Raga, or Keerthana
etc.; but it was a Divine recital. I continued to read, simultaneously enjoying the
Sangeetham.
There was an anxiety in my mind at the same time; Is Periava listening to what I am
reading or not ? May be my article is not worth even a Paisa. As there is no stuff in
that, may be, Periava is not paying attention to it, and instead singing; I continued my
reading in between these thoughts. Somehow, I completed reading the article. When I
came to the last line, I felt relieved, as if a big weight had been unloaded from my
head.
There was absolute silence for a second there. I was worried what would be Periavas
reaction. The one second stretched to one Yuga.
Where did you write this ?
In the Adhishtana Mantapam..
I think that Periava Himself had written this for you.
The nectar like words filled my ears, tears welled up in my eyes, thoughts flew out,
legs lifted from the floor, and I had an unique experience of floating in the space.

Silence again. One could hear only the tiny sound of the folding of papers. I waited for
the green signal with folded hands.
It is worth millions; without changing a word, you may publish this in The Deepavali
special issue in my name.
My mind expressed a billion thanks.
You may leave tomorrow morning after getting Prasadam.
Next day, Swamikal, after giving me Prasadham (of sacred ash and KumKum), said, Do
you know why I made you stay here for two days ? It is a long time since you paid a
visit to Matam, that is why. Proceed happily..
The enchanting smile bade me goodbye; duty pulled me out, not allowing me to stay
in the cool shadow of Swamikals love for a day or two more. I left for Madras along
with Krishnamurthy. What a difference between the unbearable weight that was pressing
upon me while coming to Ilayathankudi and the Peace that has pervaded my heart while
leaving the place !
Given below is that article, titled Power of Love, which was published in that years
Deepavali special number.
POWER OF LOVE
There has been a lot of talk nowadays, on unity in the country. Unity does not mean
not being disharmonious only; but realizing that there is no disharmony at all. There
is only one Supreme Being. There is no other thing than that. The thought of that
Supreme Being only can bring all people together. Religion and devotion are for bringing
all people together and enabling them to live happily and not for quarrelling and suffering.
Devotion was the super power which united Bharataham. From Kashi in the north to
Ramaswaram in the south, and from south to the holy places in the north, people were
going to and fro; That tradition has not left us even after so many changes have taken

place today. In spite of the different languages, state borders, and changing habits and
customs, all kinds of people come together, forgetting all other differences, only on the
basis of devotion. The unity which is borne out of this indestructible Supreme Being,
never dies.
The basis for devotion is Love. God is an ocean of Love. There is no living being which
is not influenced by Love. Likewise, there is no God who does not bow to Love. The
power of Love is supreme. Love nurtures only love. All the people of the country should
drown themselves in Love. For that, the minds should become pure. If Dharma
(Benevolence) grows healthily, mind will become pure. Our Vedas are the dwelling place
of Dharma. They have no beginning; It is a common treasure of the whole world. Vedas
should sound all over the country. Benevolence, Divine worship and kindheartedness
are the unique features of our Country. If we want to nurture unity, we should first
nurture these.
This applies to the entire world. Real peace is one which grows out of Love. Peace will
automatically prevail in the world, if each and everyone attains peace of mind. First, the
ignorance that there is disharmony should be discarded. Let us all have sacred bath on
this Deepavali with the prayer that the darkness should give way to Jyothi (Light).-------Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetathipathi Jagath Guru Sri Chandra Sekarendra Saraswathi
Swamikal.
