Form 5 Second PEKA

Factors Affecting resistance

AIM:
To investigate the factor of length affecting the resistance of a conductor

INFERENCE:
The length of a conductor affects it resistance.

HYPOTHESIS:
.
Write down the relevant hypothesis for this investigation.

The longer the conductor, the ___________ the resistance.

VARIABLES:

Read the methods carefully before state the MV, RV and fixed variable.
a) Manipulated :________________
b) Responding :________________
c) Fixed : _____________________

APPARATUS AND MATERIAL: ammeter, voltmeter, switch, dry cells, rheostat etc.
List at least 5 working apparatus and material.

PEKA( report) ~
Write in passive form.

Exam (plan
experiment) ~
Write in active form.

METHOD:
1. The apparatus were arranged as shown in the figure.
2. The conductor to be tested was fixed across x y.
3. 6 sets of readings of the current, I and the potential difference, V from the
ammeter and voltmeter respectively were obtained by adjusting the rheostat. The
readings were recorded.
4. A graph was plotted for each set of data by using the same axes.

RESULT:

MVs are filled in the 1st column. RVs are after it. The values are fixed at
uniform decimal places.

GRAPH:
Normally the MVs are plotted on the x-axis and the RVs are
plotted on the y-axis.

How do you determine the resistance of the conductor?

By determine the gradient of the graph from the V-I graph.

CONCLUSION:
From the result obtained, what is the relationship between the factors tested and
the resistances of the conductor?
Do the results support the hypothesis?

The longer the conductor, the _____________ its resistance. The hypothesis is ______.

PRECAUTIONS:

Name the measuring tools and tell how to prevent error reading. Do not simply
write “Prevent parallax error”!!!!

1. The ammeter and voltmeter was checked for zero error and adjusted accordingly
before carrying out the experiment.

2. The readings of ammeter and voltmeter were carried out with eye directly above
the indicator to prevent parallax error.

Remainder
1. All meters must be checked for zero error before use.
2. Please connection based on diagrams.
3. Study the meters for their range, terminals and types before
using them.
4. Switch off the circuit every time when observation is done
to prevent the circuit from heating up.
