Word Work Contract: Week 1

This week we are focusing on the prefix non-. A prefix is a word part that comes in the
beginning of a root/base word. Non- means not.

1. nonfat to not have fat

2. nonsense to not make sense or to not be clear
3. nonstop to not stop
4. nonstick to not stick
5. nonslip - not slippery
6. nonliving to not be alive
7. nonviolent to not be violent
8. nonbeliever a person who does not believe
9. nontoxic not toxic or not harmful
10. nonfiction not fiction or not fake (informational)

Assignments Complete one assignment each night Monday through Thursday.

Monday - Choose 5 of your non- words and write a sentence using each word correctly. A good
3rd grade sentence has 5-8 words and begins with a capital letter and ends with punctuation.
Ex. (if you chose nonfiction): I like to read nonfiction books about plants.
Tuesday - Write each word in alphabetical order on a separate sheet of paper and draw a quick
picture next to each word to illustrate its meaning.
Wednesday - Type your list 4 times on a computer, with each list typed in a different/fun font.
Print it out and turn it in! You can also email it to me at ccadman@wcpss.net if you dont have a
printer. If you dont have a computer, you can hand write the words 4 times in different colors.
Thursday Choose 5 of your non- words and create word pyramids on a separate sheet of
paper.
