Our Daily Learning Collage - Sharing on Our Classroom Website & Twitter Account

What is a Daily Learning Collage?


Our Daily Learning Collage is a picture collage created
with the YRDSB approved iPad app, PicCollage. It
showcases important cross-curricular learning
moments that occur during our day. It is shared daily,
with students in a Knowledge Building Circle. Here,
students learn the value of sharing their thoughts and
ideas in a large group. As well, they learn the
importance of turn taking, how to listen to others and
how to respond positively to others ideas. This time
also allows educators to model and introduce math,
language and inquiry concepts and vocabulary.
Educators also use this time to model early writing
strategies through the Two Stars and One Wish that
are co-created with the students.

What does this process look like in the


classroom?
During our morning Knowledge Building Circle, both
educators are involved in facilitating oral language and
early writing skills that are embedded in the form of
Our Daily Learning Collage. When all the children
have gathered at our whole group meeting space,
they are asked to first look, by themselves, at Our
Daily Learning Collage (which has been projected
onto the wall, big enough so everyone can see.) After
some think-time, the children share what they see,
with a talk partner. Next, as a whole group, we
discuss three different things that the children saw.
From here we are able to develop Two Stars and One
Wish from the childrens observations. The two stars
are often things we had fun doing" or "things we
learned. The one wish is something that we are
hoping to investigate, explore or try. One educator
will write down the two stars and one wish, all the

while, modeling early writing strategies (i.e.: upper


case letters at the beginning of a sentence, a period at
the end of the sentence and finger spaces in between
words).

Making the learning visible


Each night, Our DailyLearning Collage will be emailed
to you. Aswell, it will be madeavailable on our
website.Spending some time talking to your child
about our Daily Learning Collage is a wonderful way to
foster oral language, as well as get a glimpse of the
learning that happened in the classroom. The
following are prompts that you can use when talking
with your child about the learning happened that day:
Can you tell me about...?
What inspired...?
I wonder what else you could do with...?
How did you feel when...?

Privacy & Consent


Technology is a big part of our program and
seeing as we use it on a daily basis, we would
like to formally ask you for your permission to
use photos, video clips, words from
conversations, drawings, writings, and other
sample work taken throughout your childs
time with us (September 2015 - June 2016).
They will be used in our Daily Learning Collage
and on our private classroom website and
Twitter account. We thank you in advance for
considering this important request. Sharing this
learning will have many benefits to both
students and families and will help to foster the
home-school connection.

I _______________________________, give permission for Ms. Moffitt and Ms.
Cortez to use the following: photos, video clips, words from conversations,

drawings, writings, and other sample work taken from my childs time in
Full Day Kindergarten (September 2015 - June 2016). I understand that they will
be used in Our Daily Learning Collage and on our private classroom website and
Twitter account which serves to enhance parent communication and make our
daily learning visible.
