Lesson Plan Title:

Music Video Final Project
Concept / Topic to Teach:
Students can constantly improve filming and editing skills.
General Goal(s):
-Identify and use input and output devices to operate and interact with
computers and multimedia technology resources (e.g., digital video camera,
mobile cameras, connecting analog equipment to digital equipment).
-Determine that information located can be used legally and choose
appropriately (e.g., copyright information for print and graphic information,
check for copyright restrictions).
-Identify a storyline for a music video.
-Demonstrate the ability to import footage into music video editing software.
-Successfully export projects onto a CD-RW.
Specific Objectives:
Students will be able to film, edit and publish a music video using iMovie and
Final cut.

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):

Show students the best videos that have been submitted by students
throughout the years to engage and excited students about the project.
Step-By-Step Procedures:
1. Introduce project to students.
2. Review the lesson as a class.
3. Have students watch videos from others who took this class previously,
Computerized Based Projects.
4. Have students get into groups of 4 of the teachers choice.
5. To create equality for all the students and students with special needs,
which there is a student with ADD in the classroom, you must
recognize and identify the students characteristics and special
learning needs.
6. Help the students determine what part each person will play in the
production.
7. The producer and director determine the style and direction of the
video.
8. Select a song for the Music Video Project.
9. The storyboard is created to outline the content. The story board is
also very helpful for students with ADD because a lot of planning can
go in the project with team effort. Many districts have found that
planning results in desired behavioral goals in students with ADD.

10.
The script writer creates a draft copy of the dialogue for each
cast member.
11.

Define the purpose and objective of the video.

12.

Pick the target audience.

13.

Determine the location for the video.

14.
On day 2 students must submit the storyboard for teacher
approval.
15.
Upon approval students may check out cameras to begin filming
in class throughout the entire next few days.
16.

Accurately film the video (series of still, action shots, etc.)

17.
Day 3 students will get back into groups and film throughout the
entire class day.
18.
Students have permission to record using resources like props
and a green screen.
19.
5 minutes before the class ends students must check the
cameras back in.
20.
Students may check out a camera to take home and record any
other scenes if desired.
21.
Day 4 students will get into groups and continue filming until
finished.
22.

Students will upload film to the computer using a USB cord.

23.

Save the project.

24.
Students will return cameras to the teacher after completion of
the upload.
25.
Teacher will give the students their song of choice after
uploading.

26.
The teacher will go through their music library and send the
selected son to the students computer through Bluetooth.
27.
Using iMovie and Final Cut begin editing the film and adding
music.
28.
Day 5 students will get back into groups and continue to spend
the day editing their film.
29.
On Day 6 the students will have to submit their Final Projects via
the classrooms Bluetooth wirelessly or burning the film onto a CD-RW.
30.

Once all the videos are submitted they will be viewed in a class.

31.

The teacher will grade them when they are presented in class.

32.

Grades will be posted the following day by the teachers desk.

Plan For Independent Practice:

Have students watch films and critique the footage at home and in school
during this class. Students can create projects over the summer on their free
time to strengthen their skills.
Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set):
After all the music videos have been viewed by the students the teacher will
have a Q&A.
What did you learn?
Was it hard to improve your skills?
Did you have enough time?
What did you like best about this project?
Assessment Based On Objectives:
Students will have successfully created a music video using resources, fine
editing and filming skills that were taught earlier this year and will be
assessed by the grading rubric.
Possible Connections to Other Subjects:
This project has connections with assignments that were done in this class
called Commercial Film. Student filmed and edited their commercials
much like this project. This has a possible connection with English. Students
in English are often required to do projects that require video recording to

conduct a script from a book they read. This project also has a connection
with Theatre Class because the students are acting out in front of the
camera.
Scenario: You have a student in your classroom that has a special need.
You will identify the special need and explain how you will meet the special
need in the classroom.
A student in my classroom has Attention Deficit Disorder. To
accommodate this project with this learning disability I will allow all students
to get up and move around to film their music video. This will help my
students because often children with ADD ADHD need build movement
throughout the class day. There is a rocking chair in my classroom and the
student can sit in that whenever the student needs to because the rhythm
can be calming.
