Line and Texture


Line: A long, narrow mark or band
Texture:The feel, appearance, or consistancy of
a surface or substance
Texture is the Surface Effects of a surface or
substance

Color and Depth(Perspective)


Color:the property possessed by an
object of producing different sensations on the
eye as a result of the way the object reflects or
emits light
Color is the visual sensation

Depth:the distance from the top or surface of something to its bottom


Depth can be an illusion and help with perspective

Light and Direction(Motion)


Light:The natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible
light is the Illumination (natural or artificial) is necessary for vision. It affects
color, shadows, add the visibility of a design.

Direction:A course along which someone or something moves


Importance is to make sure it had full potential.

Mass(Visual weight) and Tone(Black and White)

Mass:a coherent, typically large body of matter with no definite shape


Concept that describes how much something in an image pulls your eye to
look at it

Tone:The general character or attitude


of a place, and strength
It's how light or dark a color is, rather than
what the actual color or hue is

Value(Color) and Shape (2D)


Value:The regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth,
or usefulness of something
Value will help with perspective

2D Shape:A 2D shape is any shape that has two dimensions


The 2D shapes will help with visual focus points

Shape(3D) and Space (+,-)


3D Shape:An object that has height, width and depth
3D shapes will help with graphics and different layers

Space (+,-):The area around positive shapes, the background, is


negative space. A solid piece of sculpture occupies space, and makes the
space around it come to life
Positive and negative space work in unison to affect the overall composition of
a work of art

Balance and Emphasis


Balance:an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to
remain upright and steady
to make the picture even and easy on the eye, so it will stand out and look
clean cut

Emphasis:special importance, value, or prominence given to something


is the ability to attract attention and make an element stand out
focal point or points to provide visual emphasis. These are elements
that attract the eye and act as a visual
climax, stressing a key point or points within the composition.

Proportion and Repetition


Proportion: a part, share, or number considered in
comparative relation to a whole
Proportion also pertains to the design of objects and
their placement in the frame

Repetition:the action of repeating something that has


already been said or written.
to figure out the importance of the artwork,
to figure out the story behind it

Unity and Contrast


Unity:the state of being united or joined as a whole
Unity is the relationship among the elements of a visual
that helps all the elements function together

Contrast:the state of being strikingly different


from something else, typically something in juxtaposition
or close association
Helps with the value of light and dark

Harmony, Proximity and Variety


Harmony:the combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce chords
and chord progressions having a pleasing effect
Works with colors and shapes to help the piece of work fit together

Proximity:nearness in space, time, or relationship


Proximity relationships will generally dominate over similarity relationships

Variety:

the quality or state of being different or diverse;


the absence of uniformity, sameness, or monotony

adds interest by using contrasting elements within the composition
