Design Problem
According to the Food research incorporated pistachios are very healthy for the bodys use
however if it is consumed in large amounts it could be harmful in many ways such as in the
consumption of too much of its fat. It is not only because of this it is also because of the companies that
sell pistachios in large packages, without any serving sizes or daily recommendations. As mentioned in
Pistachio Nuts Benefits, Side Effects, Nutrition Value and Facts article pistachios have many benefits
however it also has side effects if too much of it is consumed, some include weight gain, allergic
reactions, high blood pressure and gastrointestinal problems (Pistachio Nuts).
The packaging of the pistachios are not only problematic in the sense that
it is very harmful to the environment as shown in the picture on the right and on
the left I have investigated how pistachio packaging looks like in a fancy nuts store and from
regular super market, as we can see both packages they both use plastic which is one of the
most material used for packaging pistachios because it is sustainable and easy to make seals and reuse it.
The problem of having too many pistachios is that this will result in the user buying more of the
pasting packaging and helping the company sustain their usage of the plastic and in many ways the user
is then supporting the destruction of the environment and the large wastage of oil.
The negative impacts that plastic has on the environment, wildlife, humans and the
air are endless from using too much oil which promotes its usage resulting in
more oil spillage accidents to wildlife chocking on the material and thinking that it
is food. 63% of plastic is used by packaging so by reducing the amount of plastic
packaging we reduce the usage of plastic by 63% percent, therefore reducing the amount of landfills,
conserving oil in our environment (Plastics).
Another reason to making packages using cardboard is because the idea of
going green has become very poplar and it works very well with the financial needs
for each country because of the fact that when a cmpany goes green it gains more
customers and this also improves the economical growth of the company by
spending less money on the packaging but gaining more money from the packaging,
An example of this is a company that produces quiz packets called Brain Quest. This company used to
produce packages with plastic covers and plastic mateirals and they used to sell 25 million copies,
3

howver once they had the goes green remark on their product and did not have any plastic except for
glue which was not mentioned; an extra 5 million was added and now they sell 30 million pieces.
A very simple solution to all of these problems is to create a susatainable and interesting
packaging for pistachios using a more environmetally source which is card board because we can use
many diffent colour to make it look asthetically appealing, sutainable and safe for my target audience of
women ages 38 48.

Analysis

21/3/2015

I need to see some examples

because these will give me ideas
of what to do and what not to do,
maybe I will like a design but I
can improve it and change it so
that its better, or see a design that
is not so good and know what to
avoid doing, it will help give me
ideas as to what I will be doing,
(shapes, color and size) this will
also give me a vague idea to what
my target audience likes.

I will be gathering different packaging

products that are available to me and I will be
analyzing ways that this can help me gain
ideas and develop my understanding of nets
even further than I previously had, this will
ensure that I understand different ways that
companies use materials to package products.
I will also ask the help form my target
audience to rate the products that I do
analyze and see If this information correlates
with theirs. I will do this by conducting a
survey. Finally I will also do some internet
research because there are a lot of ideas of
potential products that have not been created.

Interview

20/3/2015

I will be using this information to

understand what my end user
likes to use and prefers to use.

I will be asking questions about the aesthetics

of the design such as some things they will
find helpful and not.

Survey

21/3/2015

I will need to know what a range

of my target audiences
preferences, I also would like to
know what aspect matters the
most in a package design.

For this I will be making a video that will

demonstrate some different packaging
products and ask some of my target audience
though email to watch the video, and then
answer the questions relevant to them.

Anthropo
metrics

21/3/2015

I will need to know the size of

my end user which is a sample of
my target audience women ages
38 48.

I will be measuring the hand of my end use to

be able to make a product that is hand held
and for that matter easy to use.

Nets

21/3/2015

I need to do some research on

different nets because this topic
is quite new and in order to
create a sustainable and useable
product without glue I will need
to fully understand nets.

I will be using the products that I have at

home, ideas from books in the Design
Technology room and I will also be using
some internet product that I find because I
will need to look at the folding as well and the
scoring lines.

Product Analysis
Samsung Ativ Package disassembly and reassembly:
The picture on the left is an example of when I have been dissembling the
Samsung Ativ Package. I have noticed that this is one of the most important
packages for me to analyze because as you can see in the blue bordered images
I have looked at and analyzed the different joints, dimensions, and score lines
used to achieve this net and folded structure of the product. This will help me
see how the nets and I will be able to use different strategies to create the net for
my own product. The rest of the images is proof of me disassembling and re
assembling the product.
Looking at the nets of the package I can see how it all fits together.
This is because for this particular package there are specific flaps
designed to keep the product stronger, I have also noticed how this
product is constructed after numerous failures of attempting to reassemble the product because of all of its complications. This helped me understand nets in a better
way, for example all of the spacing in the bottom that was used to secure the folds.
The assembling and re-assembling of this product has helped me start understanding the basics of the
nets and the different holes and clasps to use, and this specific product is going to help me in the
creation of my product because it gives me the idea of sections and having a box inside another.

Kindle Package disassembly and reassembly:

In my opinion the kindle package was the best example because it
has a very innovative and interesting design. It also keeps the
product inside of it very safe because it is not only surrounded with
a very strong structure but it also has some cushioning (which is not
present in the images). This product is aesthetically appealing and it
is safe this means that it does the two most important things that a
package should do. The reason I chose to disassemble and
reassemble this package is because I wanted to know how all of the
different parts fit, how it is so strong even though there is no glue or
plastic being used.
As you can see in the picture on the left there is a picture of the
net, I have used this net to notice areas that were designed to
make the package stronger which I have marked in red so that I
can recreate some parts of it if needed in the developing ideas
and creating a solution sections of the manufacturing.

Spanish CD set package:

This package is one of the packages that I was not able to

diassemble and reasseble because in the construction of it it used
glue a lot and this is an indicator that this product that is not vey
envirenmentally friendly because glue uses the plastics and you can
see that in the images surrounded in a yellow border. This product
unlike most of the products that I have anaylzed, and I chose to
analyze this product because I would like to know what my target
audiences opinion is about is asthetically and functionally in order
to look at how I would able to construct somehting of a similar
quality to satisfy my target audinces needs if they did prefer it.

Brain Quest Package disassembly and reassembly:

These pictures are of me analyzing the two products I have previously
owned which had a plastic display case and then the latest version with
only cardboard usage. I was able to see how the creators have assembled
this product in order to have a display even without the plastic and that is
through joints and glue, however this package could be created without
glue it would not be as strong because of the weight of the product being
placed inside of it. The company was being successful in making the
product sell more without the plastics because as displayed in the
packages the previous package with the plastic has sold 25 million while the cardboard package has
sold over 30 million this is an indicator that there are people that may be redirected from a product
because it uses non-environmentally friendly products.
I have used the information that I have from this product to have a possible the display for the
pistachios to make them attractive looking and aesthetically pleasing.

Sample Package found in the Design Technology room dissassembly and reassembly:
The package on the right is the last package that I disassembled and
re-assembled, I was looking for a package with the same type of
closure at the bottom as the Brain Quest Package but without glue
so that I could analyze it. This box is very basic in its assembling and
disassembling but I noticed that it uses the cardboard that has a
coating which means that it is not 100% environmentally friendly. I
can see that because the product is shinny. The stability of this
package could be improved, by either changing the material that is
used or by making the connections between the pieces.

Interview
For the interview I talked with my end user (My mother; Mona Kassem) about the idea of
packaging and I also asked her to complete the survey so that her review of the products could be
present on the results.
6

Did you know that the recommended amount of pistachios is 49 pieces?

No I did not know but I think packaging companies should mention that
more often to keep people eating healthily and keep them from eating
too much, I know some people however that even if it says on the
package they wont stop they need some kind of constriction from it.
Me showing my end user
Do you think that if a package was made with sections it would help?
(Mona Kassem) different
Yes like maybe something with packaged amount for 3 days because I
samples of pistachios and
pistachio shells including
dont think people would go every day to buy pistachios it has to be
the recommendations.
something compact, quick and long lasting.
Do you have any requests?
It would be nice if there was some interesting layout to the packaging like warning, or little
notes, and I think the package its self should be very different to the current one so that the
market would recognize it more.
Do you like to see something aesthetically pleasing on a package?
Yes, maybe you could add some patterns, different colours because there has to be a reason for
me to want to buy it rather than the traditional and trustworthy one that I am used to.
Like what for example?
Since I am a journalism when it comes to writing any articles about health we use colours like
green and white to promote that idea.

Survey
I have created a survey that can be viewed online at:
http://kwiksurveys.com/s.asp?sid=2xa5yvs0n3h5rkx507785
For my survey I have posted a video that shows some packages of product, including the disassembly
and reassembly of the product and this was because I wanted to show my target audience the full
product. Under that I asked my target audience some questions about the video they watched. I have
also created the video so that I can see myself what I have done to fold the product or reassemble it and
so that I have a video record of me doing it so that I would not forget some of the steps.
My survey and results:
Please rate the following products from 1-10 (1 being the worst
and 10 being the best):
For my first question I asked my target audience to rate some
of the products that I have analyzed on a general 1-10 scale so
that I can have a general idea of their most preferred type of
package and what kind of packages my target audience are
most interested in. As a result of taking the averages of all of
the rsults I found that I found that the best rated package was
the lenovo package and that is a product that had special way of displaying its product using magnest
and an innovative display package, however interestingly enough the second best package was a very
envirmentally friendly package, howevey because of the type of carboard, the streaght of the package,
and the parts of the package it was asthesically pleasing, I also thing it was intereting because it was not
the standard box structure of most of the boxes, this helped me in relizing that my target audince likes

to use new and innovative ideas rather than a standard box package which is easily re made for most
products globaly.
Which of the four packages did you find most interesting? & Which product do you think is the
safest out of the four?
For questions two and three I asked more specifically what my target
audience found most interesting about the packages and I also had a
section at the bottom that asks the target audience why they chose this
package to be the most interesting or the safest. I chose these question to
understand how a package is viewed in the eyes of my target audience. For the
second question I received comments that the reason most people
chose the Lenovo package was
because of the display mechanism that it had and because of the
aesthetically pleasing and simple structure of it, they chose the kindle
package as the second most interesting package because of the way that the
product on the inside it displayed as a picture in life size. For the third
question the product that was rated the safest of the four is the Kindle
package and according to the comments that is because of the fact
that there is a lot of space for the product and that the product is
protected by a very strong and maintaining structured box. The secondly rated package in this
question was the Samsung Ativ package and according to the comments that is because of the fact that
there is some fabric protecting the product in its package.
Form this questions I have been inspired to make a package that has an engraving of pistachios life
sized because that is something that is interesting, however I will have to find out how to do this
without using too much of the laser cutters energy therefore resulting in more fossil fuels being used
if it was mass produced.
Do you think that you would follow a package serving recommendation?
For the fourth question I chose to ask my target audience about whether they
would follow a package serving recommendation or not because that is what my
product will be based on. 66.67% of the sample group of my target audience
answered this question as a yes and that means that making a product that helps
my target audience follow the recommended serving size.
What maters the most in a package design?
For my fifth question I wanted to know what the most important thing in a
package according to my target audience so that I would be able to focus my
specifications and package on that. According to the results the most important
thing in a package is the safety of the product and the interaction of it however
only a small percent said that the way it looks is important. This means that in
order to satisfy as large of a group of people as possible I need to create a
package that is aesthetically pleasing, safe and easy to use.

On a package what is the amount of decoration that you would like to see?
For my final question I wanted to have a vague idea of what my target audience
likes because this will helped me create and design a product that they are more
likely to use. According to my results even though the least important thing is how
it looks 88.9 % of my target audience would like to have some designs on the
package. Only 11.11% said that they did not want any designs on the package so I will need to
construct a package with simple designs to satisfy most of my target audience.

Anthropometrics
The pictures on the right are measurements of my mothers hand and because
she is my end use, the person I did an interview with and part of my target
audience I believe that it is important to have the measurements of her hand in
order to make a hand held object for pistachios and their serving sizes. I also
took into consideration the ring because I do not want it to get in the way of using
the product.
The sizes that I found are as follows:
The wrist: 50mm

The hand from the wrist to tip of

middle finger: 175 mm

Width of the palm of the hand:

75mm

Ring is 5mm

Middle of the palm to the end of the

thumb: 110mm

Length of the palm of the hand:

100mm

Length of thumb:
57mm

Width of the muscles surrounding the

metacarpal bones: 25mm

Length of middle finger: 72mm

Analyzing one sample could be problematic if it were to be made at a larger industry because it would
need to work with all sizes.

Nets
Self-Lock Tray/ Lid with Built-in Supports:
I will need to know this net
because this net makes a
product that has sections and
opining to the sections, I will
need to know this because I
could use this. I will not be using
the identical net but this will
help me in the process of
designing my package.

Semi Lock Bottom and Tapered Top with

handle:
Most packaging for nuts is
in the form of a bag and
this will help me know how
I can create the bag with
the sections as well, for
example all of the joints
and pieces used in the first
example I could add it here.

Round Top Flap with Straight Tuck bottom:

I need to understand this
net because it is a way that
the package closes
securely. I can see that this
package requires a lot of
scoring for the making of
it, I can also see that the
red circled part is where
the flap is put to hold
everything inside.

Box with Tapered Sides, Snap, Lock, Bottom and

Handle
This package is another
example of how I can
use a similar idea of the
bag to store nuts to keep
the old design but twist it a
little bit. It will be much easier
to make sections in this
package because it is a more
structured and boxed package.

Design Brief
Product analysis:
Form my product analysis I have concluded that there are many ways to assemble a package to
make it look interesting and appealing to the target audience and end user. By analyzing the packages
that I have taken for an example I have been able to understand how packages work, how to make
certain parts stronger, how to make it more interesting and aesthetically pleasing. This has helped me to
know that I will be making a package that will show the product inside in some way without using plastic,
using ideas from the Brain Quest package.
Interview:
The Interview helped me progress in my thinking that I can think of what the survey questions
should be like. This will also help me take into account the opinion of a person that is in my target
audience and see if my predictions were correct. This interview was very helpful because now I know
that I should use specific colours such as white and green to promote the health side, but also avoid the
brown because it would look bad with the colour of the pistachio shell. This will improve the pleasance
of the product.
Survey:
The survey helped me determine what more than one person. I have gained a lot of my
understanding of my target audience in this section because I had a wider range rather that one person
exactly in the middle of the age group. I got the idea of displaying the pistachios from this section as well
as making an engraving of pistachios that is life sized.
Anthropometrics:
The anthropometrics helped me determine what the size and shape of the product should be to
fit comfortably in my end users hand, This may not be a very good indicator of what all of the different
hand sizes could be for women ages 38-48 because it is only one sample.
Nets:

10

In this section I looked further than the nets I had already tried from real life objects, I have
looked at nets in books and how they are assembled. I have tried to look for some of the hardest nets
that I would be able to understand and I have analyzed them.
In conclusion to my Inquiry and analysis, I have realized that in order to solve the
problem that 38-48 year old women have with not being aware of how many pistachios they
need to stop at. I will be make a package that can be easily used while laying down on a couch.
I think some of the most important feature that it should have is that it should have sections and
serving recommendations on the package, the package should be strong, sustainable and aesthetically
pleasing for the audience. It has to be comfortable in their hand because they will be holding it. My
target market is 38-48 year old women

Developing
Design Specification
Specification

Explanation and description

How am I going to test it?

Size limitation

The product should be limited to sizes 65mm x 90mm

so that it can fit comfortably in my target audiences
hand leaving 5 mm space on each side. The product
needs to fit 49 pistachios and it should be able to carry
35g. I will be using 2D design with the correct scale to
measure this before cutting the card to keep within the
limit of the specification.

I will measure this by using a ruler

and I will also be placing the
pistachios to see if they do fit
inside the product.

Sustainability

The product has to be stable on the couch, table and in

my end users hand in order to be successful. My
product should also be very easy to open and close and
the joints should be very stable without any glue.

I am going to test this by asking my

end user to handle the product in
different ways by opening and
closing it many times to make sure
that it stays in the way I want it.

Ergonomic
consideration

My product should be safe for my user, meaning that

pistachio pieces should not fall out and there should
not be any sharp edges in the parts that the user will
hold because that would make it uncomfortable and it
could cause paper cuts. It should be easy to take out
pistachios.

I will test this point by making a

questionnaire and asking different
people from my target audience
how the product feels and how
easy it is to take out pistachios and
how easy it is to dispose of the
shells.

Function

My specification for this section is that my product has

to have a part for the shells of the pistachios and
another part that fits exactly the recommended size and
one more pistachio this will ensure that it will fit even
with different sized pistachios.

I will test this by actually placing

the pistachios in the product and
the shells so that I can see if it fits
or not.

Aesthetic
appearance

The colours, should include white and green and there

should be some kind of hole that reveal pistachios on
the inside. There also needs to be some design using
the colours white and green to promote the pistachios.

I will be measuring this by asking

my end user about my product and
seeing if they think it is
aesthetically pleasing or not.

Location

As I have mentioned in my design brief it will be

situated on a couch or sometimes a table. For this
reason the product should accommodate both places.

I will have my end user sit in

different possible angles on the
table and couch and test its stability
and strength then.

Environmental
issues

The product will be constructed with the cardboard

provided by the school. I will be limited to recyclable
materials to make the product. For example I could
use ting to make the edges un sharp and make its
ergonomic use better. It also has to be quite simple so
that it would not use that much fossil fuels.

I will test this by comparing it to

other existing products and by
using feedback form my target
audience in a questionnaire and an
interview with my end user

12

Design 1

Feedback from end user: My end user thinks that this packaging looks very aesthetically pleasing, but when I gave her the model to try and use she found it very hard to but the
pistachios in and the shells. She also found that it was too complicated to use.

13

De

Feedback from end user: My end user thinks that this product is very interesting and easy to use however much like the first design it is hard to throw away the shells because you
would have to cover all the other sections and some pistachios would fall so she needs something where the shells can be taken out and thrown.

14

Feedback: The feedback that I had from my end user on this design is that she wanted there to be more interesting factors at the sites such as engravings about pistachios, or
nutritional facts.

15

Justification of Final Design against specification

Point

Justification

Size limitation

My final design meets most of the aspects required by the size limitations, for example it
fits 49 pistachios, and it also fit comfortably in the target audiences hands, however it is
not in between the range of 65mm x 90mm.

Sustainability

My product I very stable in all situations, however when it is being moved around too
much it can slide its shape a lot, I will fix this in the later alterations of my deign.

Ergonomic
consideration

The pistachios fit inside the package, they do not fall out and the product it very round
and smooth which makes the texture and feel of the package more comfortable.

Function

My design meets this specification because it has a place for the pistachios and another
place for the shells which are both mentioned in my specification as necessary to the
function.

Aesthetic
appearance

According to the feedback from my end user my final design is very aesthetically pleasing
in the top because of the design and colours however it could improve by having some
information about the pistachios.

Location

I have had my end user hold the package with pistachios ant different angles to see the
stability of it in each location, and it works very well in all situations and angles, except for
the angle in which the user is folding the parts that make it stable.

Environmental
issues

The designs on the product its designs are very environmentally friendly because they do
not use a lot of fossil fuels to engrave them, however the product its self is very large and
leaves a lot waste material.

Modifications of Manufacturing

Analysis

3/59/5

Everything fits very well. Its stability was very

bad because the inside would not say
together in one place. However because this
is my first trial I was not sure how I could
improve on it, however by looking at other
designs I got inspiration from that.

9/513/5

I faced another problem in the stability of theis

product which was that it tore parts of the card
as well as the fact that the parts where the slots
were supposed to go into made the entire
product very weak. The modification that I
made to my previous design is that I made it
into tabs intead of a card ribbon.

13/5
22/5

22/5
26/5

In order to soleve the problem I had above I made smaller

cuts to keep the parts as stong as possible, this worked
however it was very messy from the inside and was very
impractical for the function of the product. It was also not
very stable. The modificaition that I made to my previous
deign is that I made a cover and base on the outside of the
main box so that it would keep it stronger.
In the final week of the process making I found a way to
make the lid a better product. For the entire time I was
making a round cylinder like box, however I realised that I
can make the round shape from a squared shaped bottom
and that . For my final piece I also chose a specif colour
scheme that is relative to my purpose and function. The
modification that I made to the privious design is that I
made it simpler and nicer.

Final Summary
I modified my product net design 4 times during this project and I was able to see my mistakes from
each time and improve on it. The part that I changed the most was the outside box. However I did
some more engraving for the inside box and the middle box.

17

Pictures of Final Product

Evaluation
Testing
I tested my product in multiple ways this included the most important part which was how the
pistachios fit into the packaging. From my testing I saw that each slot of the brown tray fitted 24 25
pistachios at a maximum which is the scat number needed because 24 x 4 =96 and 25 x 4=100 and
100+96=196and 196/2=98.
I tested the product by conducting a questionnaire asking different store employees about the
product and getting them to evaluate it in a questionnaire. I know that even though the tray holds two
servings the middle part only holds shells from one serving and so the user would still need to throw
away the shells and notice how much they have eaten.
If shaken or pushed the pistachios remain inside of them however if it is flipped upside down
everything will fall from it because the cover does not securely cover the entire product and it does not
stay in place, however if the package is held upside down with two hands nothing will fall out of it.
I tested it by dropping it a couple however these results were not so good
because it resulted in some parts tearing because it is card board and so I used tape
to fix it, however this shows that I need to improve the sustainability of the product.
I also tested the actual shell holder, how easy it is to use,
take out and throw away the unwanted parts of the pistachio, and I
noticed that it interfered with the design of the tray and this made it
quite difficult to remove, I will need to make and improvement for
this part

Finally I also tested the location that the product will be placed in and because the bottom of
the product is squared and then it bends it is very stable on all surfaces and it is
also very comfortable to hold because of this part. As you
can see in the pictures it is stable on both surfaces and it
is not unbalanced or any other problems that could
happen.

Questionnaire
For my questionnaire went to 5 different stores that
sell nuts and asked one person from each:
Nuts Valley: Iyanna Guerra- Stocker
Dubai Nut: Cenobia Joanna- Cashier
Waitrose: Jaquan Santora- Store manager
Date and Nut Company: Silnia Zoleta- Store
manager
Union Co-op: Johanne Azura- Customer Service
I then gave each the package and the questionnaire
and they filled in the answers according to their
own opinion. I chose these people because they
were with in my age range of 38- 48 year old
women.

Questionnaire answers

To analyze this graph I can see that the results of my questionnaire were reasonably good. For the first
question that I asked I can see that the results see that all of the people I asked liked my product, and
because I chose these people from my target audience as educated samples of what my target audience
likes this means that although there may be flaws my target audience still likes it. For the second
question I could say that I have an average of 6/10 in stability of the product in the opinion of my target
audience. For the third question I can see that all of the people I questioned believed that my package
20

was safe. For the fourth question I can see that my product has a 2/5 chance of being a success in the
industry after revisions and modifications. For the fifth question I can see that most of my target
audience agrees that it is easy to use however I need all of my target audience to find it easy and so
modifications are needed. For the last question of whether they think it is aesthetically pleasing or not,
most of them found it aesthetically pleasing however one of them didnt and after have a conversation
with her she mentioned she would like it if it would be neater and easier to use.

Evaluation of Design
Against specification
Specification

Followed or
not

How?

Size limitation

Partially
unfollowed

I met my size limitation because my product is within the limitation and

I can see this because my product fits 98 pistachios comfortably in my
target audiences hand and I was able to measure this using the cover of
the 2D design and by looking at the real life width of it which were its
162 mm x 162mm x 61mm. Even though the size requirements are not
correct however I do have double the portions of my original target.
This is a positive about my package because companies need more
products in their packaging.

Sustainability

Followed

My product works well in my end users hand, it is function on any

other surfaces as well and according to most of the people in my
questionnaire it is quite easy to use because the hole on the top is how
you open the package and everything else is easy to use.

Ergonomics

Followed

The product is very comfortable fitting in my target audiences hand

because there are no sharp edges. The actual design of the base that
connects to the tray makes it even more comfortable because instead of
holding a straight box, it is curved which was more comfortable.

Function

Followed

My product fits this specification because it has a section, for the shells,
and I ensured that it doesnt only fit one size of pistachios because it
does not have size restriction but quantity restrictions.

Aesthetic
appearance

Followed

My product follows this specification exactly as I previously wrote it,

because the logo shows the pistachios on the inside, I used the same
colours for the product and made a design out of these colours.

Location

Followed

My product works very well on both surfaces this makes it more

accessible for my target audience because a lot of people eat pistachios
while sitting on the couch or table.

Environmental
issues

Followed

For most of my target audiences reviews they liked the fact that it was
an eco- friendly product however one of them suggested that I should
have used acrylic instead of cardboard, this would greatly improve the
sustainability however it would no longer be a packaging product.

Modifications and further improvements

According to my analysis of the questionnaire results and the comment I received during this
questionnaire I can make improvements and modifications accordingly. The following drawing is of the
modifications I would make to the product if I were to create it once more:
As you can see I modified the design and idea of
the inside box of the shells and added handles to make it
easier to remove the shells and throws them away as asked
in the questionnaire by the target audience and in the interview
by the end user. I will be able to do this on 2D design except
instead of having one sheet of paper for the inside box I will have three more
strips to make the handles. I have decided to stay with card because it will
look neater and it will be easier to assemble than a string.

Impact on user
My end user for this product would be Mona Kassem and she has answered questions I asked her in
the following interview:
1- How do you think that my product helped you enjoy eating pistachios more?
The product in my opinion is not only very enjoyable, but it is also very helpful because it gives
people a limit to what they should eat especially with the shells compartment, it allows you to
get away with one or two more pistachios but after that you would have to get up and notice
how much you ate.
2- Is the product comfortable in the hand?
The product is very comfortable in my hand because of two main reasons the card used is very
soft and the shape of the product gives a very easy access to the use of the product.
3- Is it easy to use?
In my opinion everything about the product is very easy to use, however I think that the part
with the shells can be greatly improved because you have to go through some kind of procedure
to take it out, maybe you could add a string or handle of some sort to make it better.
4- What do you think of the logo, and the aesthetics of the product in general?
I like the aesthetics because it looks like a pistachio but put in a very smart way because of the
colours used and the laser cutting on the top. As a journalist I can tell you that the colour
scheme you chose for this is very good because when journalist write articles about health we
use the colour beige- white, when we write about the environment we use green representing
the leaves and brown representing the tree bark and it works very well with what you are trying
to do.

22

Conclusion
To conclude on all of my feedback and evaluation, my product is quite simple and easy to use
however some modifications should take place if I were to do it again. I could also see that when I made
a questionnaire to store workers in the field my product could potentially be successful. The product
responds well with the needs of my target audience, and my end user seems to be content with the use
of this product according to the written interview I have in the modifications and improvements section.
