The past can't hurt you anymore, not unless you let it. Watching the film 1st ko si 3rd
made me realize a lot of things. It was a movie about letting go of the past, and focusing on
what is present. It also sends the message that you should not let your past and present mix,
you cannot let the past haunt you forever. The main character, Corazon, rekindled her past
when she came across her first love, Third, in the church. It made her old feelings reappear, and
it made her question her decisions and her marriage with her husband, Alejandro.

But what caught my attention was the symbolism of the broken car in their lives. For me, it
symbolized their marriage. It was broken, in a way that Andong was not Corys first choice. It
seemed like Cory just settled for him, since there was no other option. It was broken, in a way
that Andong was the only one putting effort into fixing the relationship. Like the broken car, their
marriage was on the verge of breaking. But, you do not give up. Andong explicitly told this to his
grandson, Ton-Ton. He told him that, Ang bagay na kaya mo pang ayusin, kaya mo pang
sagipin. Tiyaga lang yan. Andong did not give up on the battered old car. He gave his time,
strength, and effort in fixing it. He did everything he could so that it would work again, even if it
was on the brink of falling apart. Just like their marriage, he tried to make things alright between
the two of them. I guess that is what you do when you love someone. When you enter into a
relationship with the person you love, you have to stick with him/her through whatever problems
life brings. You do not give up on the relationship, just because a hardship comes into your way.

In the end, Cory realized that there was a reason why she and Third did not end up
together. Everything has a reason for happening. That is the time she started truly seeing what
she had and what was right in front of her. She appreciated and valued what she have.
