Dear 5th Grade Parents:

Welcome to the fifth grade at Wakefield Elementary!
This year
promises to be an exciting and busy year for us all. We have lots to
learn and accomplish this year, and only 180 days in which to do it all.
Youll be amazed at how fast the year goes!
Thank you to the families that came out for Meet the Teacher on
Wednesday. I enjoyed meeting all of you. For those of you who werent
able to make it, I hope you will be able to join us for Open House in
September.
If you attended Meet the Teacher, you already received a supply list,
however if you did not, there should be a bright yellow sheet with the
list on it that your child brought home. I ask that you try and get all
supplies by the end of the first week of school, so that we may hit the
ground running the second week.
I do have a website that is currently in the process of being worked on,
it is: http://mrsfontenotsfifthgrade.weeebly.com. If you give me a
couple weeks, I will have it all updated and interactive.
Please dont hesitate to call, send a note, or email me if you have any
questions or concerns. If there is anything you would like for me to
specifically know about your child, please let me know that as well. My
email address is: kfontenot@wcpss.net. Email is definitely the best
means of communication for me, as I may not always be able to make
phone calls, and I check my email periodically throughout the day.
Again, welcome to the fifth gradeyour childs best year yet!
Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelli Fontenot

5th GRADE BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT &

DISCIPLINE POLICY
Mrs. Fontenot

Wakefield Elementary School has adopted the following school rules:

Wakefield Students will:
Show Kindness
Operate Safely

Act Responsibly
Respect ourselves and others
.with pride!!!!!!
The entire school has adopted these rules in order to ensure an optimal
learning environment for all.
Our class rules are the same. We have discussed the meanings of
these rules in detail, and will continue to do so for the first few weeks
of school so that every student fully understands what is expected of
him/her. It is my expectation that students will make their best efforts
to follow the rules every day. When that does not happen, students
will be reminded and redirected where possible.
If a student
continually misbehaves and disrupts the learning environment for
others, (s)he will be disciplined as follows:

Lose a portion of free time, depending on the nature of the

offense.
Time Out in another classroom.
Call parent(s).
Behavioral conference with parents, teacher, and student
present.
Visit to office.
Laps at recess
Silent lunch
There are some offenses that will automatically result in being sent
directly to the office. Those offenses include: disrespect, violence,
sexual misconduct, and destruction of property. These offenses are
outlined in the School Discipline Plan.
Please discuss these rules and consequences with your child and let
him/her know your expectations for behavior as well.
STUDENTS

WILL BE REWARDED ON A REGULAR BASIS FOR CONSISTENT,

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR.

Thanks for your support!

NEWS YOU CAN USE

STUDENT DATA
Please keep us informed of any changes in your home or work
address or telephone number. We should always be able to
reach you at a moments notice in case of an emergency.
ATTENDANCE
Students are required by state law to attend school for 180 days.
However, things do happen. So if your child does indeed miss
school for any reason, please send a note upon returning to class
explaining the reason for the absence. Your childs absence will
be noted as unexcused until the note has been received, and the
note must be received within 3 days of the absence!
The students instructional day begins promptly at 9:15 a.m.
Please ensure that your child arrives at school by 9:00 to give
him/her time to prepare for the school day.
EARLY DISMISSAL
If your child needs to leave school before 3:40 p.m., please send
a note with him/her that day indicating the time you will pick
your child up. You will need to sign him/her out in the office.
Students will NOT be permitted to be checked out after 3:15.
Please pick them up prior to this time or after regular dismissal
at 3:45.
MONDAY FOLDERS
Weekly papers will be sent home each Monday. Please review
these with your child and return the sheet enclosed sign and an
empty folder on the next school day.
HOMEWORK
Your child will receive homework Monday through Thursday
nights, and will sometimes be required to complete special
assignments or projects over a weekend. Homework must be
turned in daily.
Please review your childs homework with
him/her and sign his/her agenda book every day. In addition to
written assignments, your child should read with you for a
minimum of 30 minutes every night, this includes weekends!
LUNCH MONEY
We encourage you to allow your child to pay for lunch weekly or
monthly, rather than on a daily basis. However, if you wish to

send money each day, please be sure it is in some kind of

container (change purse, wallet, baggie, etc.)
MEDICINE
Your child will not be allowed to take any type of medicine at
school without written permission from his/her doctor, which
must be indicated on a medication form. These forms are
available in the office. If your child has a chronic medical
problem, please let us know.

We must be notified in writing if there is any change in the way
your child normally goes home from school. If we do not receive
prior notification, your child will not be permitted to change their
transportation for that day.

for those who wish to participate.
NO CANDY PLEASE! If you wish to send a drink, please WATER
