Chungnam National University

Graduate Practicum
March 4 – April 15

Welcome to CNU's Graduate Practicum course. This 6 week course, offered by the
Language Education Center, is designed to help graduate students and future teachers
develop the core skills of listening and speaking in English. This class will focus on the
following topics: Warm-ups and wrap-ups, Teacher Talk, Lesson Planning, Learner
Styles and Corrective Feedback.

Students will be responsible for planning and presenting six 15 minute presentations on
some or all of these subjects. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday. For more

Course goals: at the completion of this 6-week course, you will be able to:
1. Employ easy ‘teacher talk’ in English to communicate with students.
2. Design or adapt warm-up and wrap-up activities for multi-level classrooms
technology that is compatible with the curriculum used in Korean classrooms.
3. Think practically about learner styles and multi-level classrooms and apply this
information to lesson planning and teaching.
4. Provide positive and constructive corrective feedback to students.

Requirements: In order to benefit fully from this course, students will be expected to do
the following:

1. Participate actively in class discussions


2. Speak as much English as your ability allows
3. Prepare and present 5-6 presentations/practicum
4. Cooperate in group work
