Re: 25-Book Challenge
Dear Colleagues,
‘The purpose of this memo is to inform you of a continuing mandated District
schools have participated in the 25-Book Challenge for the past three years. This campaign
invites students to read a minimum of twenty-five books throughout the school year. As you
know, in addition to reading books, students mus? maintain a log using an online database and
add a comment after reading. This year, the media specialists and the ELA department will
collaborate to make this initiative a success. Each department member will have specific.
responsibilities.
Media Specialist will use Reading Rewards to set up accounts and provide usemame and
passwords for each student in the building. They will also provide training for each staff
member. In addition, they will validate each student comment. Lastly, media specialists will run
reports once a month so the ELA staff can monitor and encourage their students’ progres
ELA teachers must have a manageable accountability system, Students need to know you are
serious, and that you are there to support them in reaching the twenty-five book minimum goal.
Please note, ELA teachers will be expected to provide evidence that they are monitoring their
student progress. The following is a list of suggestions you may use for managing student
progress: Reader’s Notebook, Charts and Bulletin Boards, Status of the Class Log, Student
Reading Log. Lastly, you may decide to allow students to enter their logs during class
using Reading Rewards as long as it does not interfere with instructional time.
Research shows that children who read more have higher vocabularies, score better on
standardized tests, have expanded world knowledge, improve memories, have reduced stress,
and increased empathy. Therefore, I am asking for your assistance, Please encourage our
students to log into Reading Rewards and complete the necessary steps. Many of our
students will know how to navigate the site from participating last school year.
Attached is a copy of the letter you will receive to distribute to your students, a reading log, and
a status of the class log. If you have any questions or comments, please email me.
Thank you for your assistance,
Ms. Rosa Lazzizera

Re: 25-Book Challenge
Dear Student,
Lam pleased to introduce a new platform called Reading Rewards (25 Book Challenge). You are
responsible for recording the books you read on this website. This site also keeps track of how
much time you spend reading. Moreover, the Reading Rewards website is maintained by your
media specialist if you encounter any problems, please refer to them for assistance. Your
account has been set up so please do not create a new one.
In addition, you must add a comment in order for your log to be validated. Please make sure
that you provide detail/examples in your comment. For example, “I like this book!”, is not a
strong comment and will not be validated. You may want to add a prediction, or you may want
to explain the conflict/theme. When you complete the novel/text, you must complete the review.
Entries that do not have a complete review, will be deleted. Your teacher will receive a report
from the media specialist at the end of each month to monitor your reading
Here are the directions for you to get started!
1. Go to www.reading-rewards.com.
Click on the Log In Link.
Enter in your username and password (Your media specialist will distribute this
information).
4, Click on Reading.
5. Take some time to familiarize yourself with your Reading Room.
6. Click on the My Reading Log Tab.
7. Every time you read, click on the Log Reading Time button,
8.
9.
Your booklist will be empty: click on Add New Book to my library.
In the Search for your book box, enter any part of your book title, author or ISBN number
to try and find your book. We use the Amazon database, so most books should be there.
10. Enter your reading date.
11, Now you can enter your reading time: put in the number of minutes you read.
12. Click on SAVE.
13. That’s it! You have logged your reading time. If you said you finished your book, you
will be asked to review it. Doing so gives you bonus RR Miles! (Please note: Your
reviews should be a minimum of four to five sentences or it will not be validated)
14, Notice how your book now appears in your library section.
15, Each account requires validation by your media specialist; they will get an email asking
them to validate your reading.
