Creative Writing
General Information

Pens (blue or black)

Welcome to Write ON: Creative Writing! This course is designed to give students
the opportunity to think and write more creatively. My goal is to encourage you to
love writing and to guide you as you develop your craft. Writing is powerful; it
inspires, empowers, heals, encourages, and liberates. We will explore many different
genres of writing and learn strategies to sharpen and develop your creative writing skills.
In this course, we will explore the following genres: Autobiography, poetry,
personal narratives, journaling, short stories, expository essay, persuasive essay,
biographical writing, blogging, reviews, and others.
Journal:
You will write in your journal (composition notebook) daily! This is place for you to
write and create dont worry about spelling, grammar, or flow. Just write. You will be
responsible for writing in your journal. Sometimes you will free-write in your journals
while other days you will respond to a provided prompt. I just want you to write! Journals
will be collected periodically; I will let you know in advance when they will be collected.
Class Blog:
You will also publish your work to our class blog. In order to receive an A grade in the
course you must upload four finished and approved work to the class blog each quarter.

Memoir: A memoir is a written account of one's memory of certain events or people.
You will be writing a memoir that includes 10 life events up to this time. We will publish
this writing and hold an author reading before the end of the year. Parents and
administration will be invited to attend this reading.

Grading:
This class will use the Broward County School District standard grading scale:
A
B
C
D
F

100-90
89-80
79-70
69-60
59 and below

Class Rules:
1. Arrive to class on time
2. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself
3. Use appropriate
language/gestures/electronics
4. Pay attention to speaker
5. Follow directions immediately

Consequences:
1. Verbal warning
2. Parent Contact (phone call, email,
agenda booklet)
3. Time-out
4. Detention
5. Referral

Tardy Policy
It is imperative students arrive to class on time. For students who are tardy, the following
consequences are in place:
First Tardy Verbal warning
Second Tardy Parent Contact
Third Tardy Detention/Parent Contact
Fourth Tardy Referral
