Success in any math class depends primarily on you, the student. This will be a rigorous course; your study and
work habits will directly affect your success in mastering abstract mathematical concepts and developing the
skills necessary to apply them and be successful throughout the year. You must utilize fully any available
resource such as assistance before or after school, tutoring or interactive sites on the Internet, private tutoring,
and study groups. There are no shortcuts, no substitutes for hard work and consistent effort. Never do less than
your best.

Course Objectives & Description

Integrated Math 2 is the second course of a three course sequence including Integrated Math I, II, and III. It
strengthens and builds on the students' prior knowledge from K-8 standards and high school Integrated Math I.
This course focuses on the quadratic expressions, equations, and functions; comparing their characteristics and
behavior to those of linear and exponential relationships from Mathematics I as organized into multiple
modules. The need for extending the set of rational numbers arises and real and complex numbers are
introduced so that all quadratic equations can be solved. The link between probability and data is explored
through conditional probability and counting methods, including their use in making and evaluating decisions.
The study of similarity leads to an understanding of right triangle trigonometry and connects to quadratics
through Pythagorean relationships. Circles, with their quadratic algebraic representations round out the course.
The Mathematical Practice Standards apply throughout each course and, together with the content standards,
prescribe that students experience mathematics as a coherent, useful, and logical subject that makes use of their
ability to make sense of problem situations. It is a prerequisite course for other math courses at Caruthers High
School. Students will be expected to learn the subject matter outlined in the course description at a high level of
competency (70% or higher).

Attendance and participation is a must to succeed. This category is mostly comprised of the
activities taking place in the class. It will include but is not limited to: group work, individual
assignments, games, homework, activities, and etcetera. Make-up tests/quizzes (for excused absence
only) must be completed by deadlines - NO exceptions see whiteboard in the classroom for makeup tests/quizzes deadlines.

Grading Policy
Semester grades are and will be based only on demonstrated mastery of concepts and development of
skills, not effort or potential. Student performance will be assessed in three areas: homework, in class
assignments, and tests that include chapter tests, benchmark tests and end of semester/final exams. Each
of these areas will be weighted and used to determine letter grades as follows:
Participation & Homework
Chapter & Benchmark Tests
Final Exam

Grades are based on individual achievement. Therefore, cheatingasking for/giving answers on an

exam, copying, plagiarism, and/or false representation of any kind will not be tolerated. This
includes, but is not limited to, using unauthorized materials, electronic devices, and/or signals of any
kind and giving or receiving unauthorized assistance on any graded assignment. Any assignment on
which such activity is observed or evident will be recorded as an assignment for which NO credit and
NO make up is given. Parents will be notified immediately.
Class Notes:
If you are absent from the class, you are required to hand-copied notes from other students.
Homework:
Homework will be assigned each day and due the following day. Students are responsible to
complete and turn in assignment(s) by due date. If you are absent from the class, it is your
responsibility to get the assignment for the day by contacting other students, stop by the class, and/or
check the website. Unacceptably written papers which include non-legible writings and/or written in
any other medium than pencil will be asked to be re-done and must be turned in by the end of the
day (3:30pm) to me or to my box at the main office for a possible full credit.
Late Assignments:
Late assignments will not be accepted after the corresponding chapter test. Any late assignments
that are due on a specific date that are prior to the chapter test will receive a 50% reduction from the
actual grade.
Extra Credit: There is NO extra credit you dont need it if you paid attention and do ALL of the
required assignments.

Class Rules
The following rules will be enforced in every aspect. Any disruptive behavior in the class that interferes
with the learning environment will not be tolerated and student will be responsible for the consequences.
Class Rules:
Corrective Action Hierarchy:
1. Always follow all directions.
1. Warning and/or detention
2. Be on time & ready to learn.
2. Move seats
3. Choose wisely in action and language.
3. Parent Contact
4. Parent Invite to sit-in class
5. Office Referral

Reminder: It is my goal to help you learn and help you be a successful student in Mathematics and
beyond, so to ensure success in this course; the key is responsibility in every aspect. Be responsible
for yourself by staying organized and making sure you are prepared every day. I will be available to you
if you have any concern, need extra help, or consultation.
