I

have asked a bunch of Chinese people about their attitude and behavior
toward racial discrimination. The most interesting part of this investigation is not
among those who answered that they sometimes discriminate, instead, its among
those who asserted that they absolutely never and would not discriminate, without
any hesitation. The reason behind this is that after I asked the following questions, it
turned out that 91% of them did discriminate, to some degree.
A lot of them hastened to refute my assertion, though. I must admit that
discrimination describes the behavior Im about to mention too much, inequality
might be more precise. My questions next, after do you discriminate, is Assume
that theres a black guy(girl) and a white guy(girl) that are completely same, except
their skin color, which one will you choose if you have to marry one of them? Ask
yourself. First, the truth is 86% of them evaded the question. They said the prettier
one or the wealthier one or the taller one, anything but the answer. Then I
stressed that they are completely the same, no matter how they refuted me that it
cant be true white people and black people dont have the same look and
everything that can evade the question. Finally, there were approximately 80%
answer the question properly, and among them, 91% of them said that they will
choose the white people.
Compare with the racial discrimination in the past, its much better now, since
there barely is someone insulting others in public, or have obvious bias to different
skin color people. But it doesnt mean that the little bias make no difference.
According to Dont Be, a memoir of a Chinese people born in America, the
narrator went through a very prevalent experience of Asians in America. They dont
get promoted anymore as they have already been in a relatively high position in
companies. The narrator of the book was considered to be the candidate of a
superior management position for several times. But he never got promoted even
after 20 years. Even though he was a really hardworking, believable person who can
absolutely handle the work as a superior manager. This is exactly what is happening
to all of the Asians in America. And despite of other factors, unbalanced attitude
towards Asians is the reason why this tremendous difference happens. Its the tiny
bias in peoples minds that influence millions of Asians lives in America.
According to a survey in 2012 by an immigration company, here is a list of the
career of Chinese who live in the USA for long term (or was born in the US):

As we can see, Catering has the largest amount of Chinese. Cause it doesnt
matter youre your skin color is. Theres no big promotion. A lot of Asians just start
their own business. So it has little things to do with the race, therefore an easier life
for every Asian. Computer and DP, and Medical treatment are popular for Asian
because they are just good at mathematics and Chemistry. Though, you seldom see
an Asian in any important positon of the companies even if they are doing excellent
jobs. However, the same thing is getting better and better for black people.
As everyone knows, black peoples position is rising day by day. Why do such
change exist? First, there was man like Martin Luther King exist, fighting for the place
for black. Martin Luther King set up Southern Christian Leadership Conference, led the
Montgomery Bus Boycott, and did the speech of humanity and equality. Its at least
5% of the whole progress it made to fight for the rights for the black from Martin
Luther King. But Asians dont. No one speaks out loud for nobody. ITs Asians habit
to be quiet. Second, black peoples behaviors dont bother people so much now. But
for Asian, they are spreading all around the world, meanwhile spreading their bad
behaviors. Jumping into the line, damaging public stuffs, trashing all around and so
on. The fact is that if a person in a particular group does something that has bad
effect, the whole group will be influenced, be judged in a negative way. And this is
exactly what is happening to Asian, even though not all of Asian have uneducated
behavior.
Started in 1970s, there were millions of workers steal into the US and Europe.
They are all cheap labor who seek for more salaries abroad. And those cheap labor
dont usually get enough education. They formed the first impression of Asian to
Americans, which was such terrible impression. Though it is already 2015, the effect
doesnt wipe easily.
Another important trend these days is the development of China. Chinese
people is getting wealthier and wealthier which lead to more traveling of them
around the world. Even those families with comparatively low income are willing to
travel abroad because of the prevalence of internet and the updating of peoples
attitude and perception toward life. First, a lot of them are not so educated which
leads to bad impression to local people. Also, Chinese population is huge, the
tourists are abundant, too. Some tourists make little difference to local people, but
too many of them boost the price of all kinds of products there if the place doesnt
lean on tourism. The conflict begins. After all, local people start to be tired of those
tourists, which are predominantly, Asian. For example, Hong Kong, a popular place
for Chinese people to go travel. Hong Kong people dislike tourists from mainland.
Because they are everywhere, speaking mandarin which is almost completely
another language, which makes their homeland unfamiliar. Also, Chinese mainland
tourists go to Hong Kong to do a bunch of purchase, which increase the prices of
everything. No one can be happy if he or she has to spend more. And thats how
they think its all Asians faults, subconsciously.
In reality, similar things happen sometimes though. In the US, Europe and
Australia, Its an common phenomenon when you see Asian people jumping into

lines, crossing the street when its red light, littering all around... Asians are
definitely bringing shame on themselves.
Then it becomes easier to solve the problem. Whats efficient is that Asians
should try their best to stop such uneducated things happen among them. Everyone
should manage themselves first, and also should supervise and prevent others from
doing such things. Meanwhile, in order to improve the quality of the countrys
citizens, the government should also pay attention and publicize how people should
behave.
