Oneta Ridge Students and Parents/ Guardians,

Welcome to Oneta Ridge Middle School! I am looking forward to a great year and will do anything to help your
student be successful in 7th grade. The following information will give you a brief overview of my class, along with
expectations and a supply list. I have high expectations in my classroom both academically and behaviorally, and I
am really looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you!
Math Class Summary:
7th grade math and Honors Math will cover algebraic reasoning and number sense, data analysis and statistics,
decimals, fractions, ratios, proportions and percents, measurement, geometry and angles, integers, and solving
equations. The following will be used to evaluate student progress: daily (homework) assignments, quizzes, tests,
projects, and participation. Make sure you know your math facts. It will make everything a little easier!
Supply List:
*1 3 ring binder
*2 packs of notebook paper
*Dividers (pack of 5)
*Pencils
*Dry-erase markers (1 pack)

*1 box Kleenex
*Sandwich size ziplocks (last name A-H)
*Clorox Wipes (last name I-P)
*Glue Sticks (last name Q-Z)

Classroom Expectations:
*We will follow the Four Cornerstones of Behavior for Oneta Ridge.
*You are responsible for your own learning
*You are responsible for supporting the learning of others.
*Be where you are supposed to be.
*Take care of our learning environment.
*All other school rules will be followed.
Entering/Exiting the Classroom:
*Please enter the classroom quietly, sit in your assigned seat, and begin working on your Bellringer. If you are not
in your assigned seat when the bell rings, you will be marked tardy.
*Students are not dismissed by the bell or the clock; they are dismissed by the teacher.
Food/Drinks/Electronics:
*Students may bring clear water bottles to class.
*Gum is allowed as long as it does not become disruptive. Food/candy are only allowed with teacher permission.
*Students must have teacher permission to use an electronic device.
Hall Passes/Leaving the Classroom:
Leaving the classroom should be reserved for emergencies only. Students should understand the importance of
class time for learning and make an effort to use the restroom during passing periods. Each student will be allowed
to use two passes each 9 week period. You are responsible for keeping your pass log all year. If it is lost, you will
not be given another. You need to fill it out in its entirety and have it signed by me before leaving the room. If you
do not use any of your passes at the end of each 9 weeks, they will be given as extra credit points.
Classwork/Homework
*All assignments will be completed and placed in our 3-ring binder in the appropriate section. All assignments are
discussed in class. If a student does not finish an assignment during class it will become homework unless specified.
Assignments are due the following day unless stated otherwise.
*Turn in all work on time. Please be aware that work turned in any time after the due date will only receive partial
credit. You will not be allowed to do any extra credit work unless you have turned in all regular work.

*Collaboration is encouraged on many assignments, but cheating/copying will not be tolerated and may result in a
zero for any and all students involved.
*If you finish early, there will be a list of things that you will be allowed to do that day (ex: read, do other
homework, enrichment activities, games, and certain apps on your phone with permission). Do not change seats
or talk because it is a distraction to other students.
*You have two days per every day you are absent to make up regular assignments. Please check our calendar for
assignments and check the missed work folder for any handouts. If you are absent during a test or quiz, you must
see Mrs. Morris to make it up. It is your responsibility to make up these assignments; it is part of becoming more
mature and taking responsibility for your own learning.
*If a student is gone for multiple days, it is recommended that the parent/guardian contact the counseling office to
request work for the student.
Quizzes
*Most quizzes are as follows: If a student misses any question on a quiz they will be given the option to redo the
questions for full credit (if done correctly), if and only if the corrections are turned in the day following when the
quiz is passed back. All Ds and Fs on quizzes will require a parent signature and must be redone. Failure to do
this will result in a phone call home. Again, if the corrections are turned in the day after the quiz is passed back,
they will received full credit back for any questions redone correctly.
Discipline Plan
These steps take place after a verbal reminder. If a student chooses to disobey the rules, the school policy is to
record the incidents on an office referral form. The following consequences will occur.
1. 1st incident recorded on office referral, change in seating placement, and conference in the hall
2. Contact parents and 2nd incident recorded on office referral
3. 3rd incident recorded on office referral and 1 or more days of after-school detention (2 hours beginning
immediately after school is released)
4. Office visit which usually results in in-school suspension
*More serious behavior problems may result in immediate removal from the classroom.
*Please understand that failure to turn in assignments, bring required materials to class, or be on time will be treated as discipline
problems because these infractions interfere with the students ability to learn.
*Zeroes are not permitted; therefore, students who fail to turn in assignments will be automatically assigned to ZAP (a study hall
during TIGER time) until the assignment has been turned in.

Grading Policy
Mrs. Morris grades on a point system. Some assignments will only be 10 points while others may be 100 points.
Parent Teacher Communication/Progress Reports:
*Parents are encouraged to check students grades at any time on Parent Connect.
*I will be using Remind, a texting service, to send out homework assignments, reminders and information. It is very
simple for parents/students to sign up. Follow instructions based on your class hour:
1st hour: Text @bamorris1 to the number 81010
2nd hour: Text @bamorris2 to the number 81010
4th hour: Text @bamorris4 to the number 81010
5th hour: Text @bamorris5 to the number 81010
6th hour: Text @bamorris6 to the number 81010
*I will periodically send an e-mail newsletter, Morris Memos. Please see the separate page to sign up for this.
*E-mail is the easiest and fastest way to communicate with individual parents. However, parents/guardians
must complete an e-mail permission form from the main office in order for me to respond.
*Phone calls: I have 3rd hour plan this year. My plan time will be 10:15-11:00. You may call during this time or
before and after school. If I am not available, please leave a message, and I will return your call as soon as
possible.
Wishlist: Individually-wrapped candy (for rewards), copy paper, colored copy paper or cardstock, chapter books
that you no longer need.
I am looking forward to a great year and hope you are too. Welcome to 7th grade at Oneta Ridge!
-Mrs. Morris
