Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said yesterday he does not covet the position of
president but if he should get elected, he will have the following priorities stop the
infrastructure projects and use the money for education and increase the salaries of
teachers and soldiers.
Speaking before business leaders at the Asia CEO Forum in Makati, Duterte said he
does not want to run for president in the 2016 elections. I am not interested. I do
not covet the position. I do not want it, he said.

Despite the public clamor, he said, his family, particularly his children, have been
vocal that he should not run for the presidency.
I have this vice. I have many mistresses, he joked. . My second wife also does not
want me in the loop.
Duterte said he believes it is no longer his time to run for the presidency. It is best
to give the post to others who want it, he added.
The opportunity to be president is very, very small, he said.
But if elected president, Duterte said, We must all reform, including myself. If
nothing happens after one year, Ill declare a revolutionary government. Former
President Corazon C. Aquino did it, he said.
In his speech, Duterte spoke of his experience in transforming Davao City from
being a murder capital to becoming one of the safest cities in the world.
Davao City is one of the most livable cities in Asia, most competitive, child-friendly,
cleanest and greenest city, he said. In Davao City, people follow the law.

Among the landmark ordinances in his city, Duterte said, are a smoking ban in all
public places, driving within the speed limit, and a ban on firecrackers and
pyrotechnics
