Banner, Stuart. The Death Penalty: An American History. Cambridge, Mass. Harvard UP (2002)
Print.
In the early days of the Death Penalty they had a long list of different offense they use for
capital punishment. It was more an event for the whole town to come watch. In some
ways it was almost like a religious event. Once convicted you were held for a month and
then executed. They thought the inmates being executed were aliens so they didnt worry
about the state of their souls. Since the time of the death penalty early on in our history
till now it still a very controversial issue.
Stuart Banner, education back ground has BA from Yale and a JD from Stanford Law
School. Stuart taught at Washington University in St. Louis before he went to U.C.L.A.
He has written papers that went to publication. I like the idea of once convicted they had
a month to live before they were executed, it could lessen crimes if we used it today. The
view point from his book is more from the early part of our history showing the Death
Penalty has been around for over two hundred years.
Cassell, Paul G. Debating the Death Penalty: Should America Have Capital Punishment?

The Experts on Both Sides Make Their Best Case. New York: Oxford UP, 2004. Print.
A person commits murder and after years of being in prison. He gets parole just to be set
free to commit another murder. The justice in that is, our court system fail to protect the
innocent individual living life. Our court system does authorize the use in the death
penalty for the most extreme case of murder but the process is long and dragged out
costing tons of money.
Paul G. Cassell, is on the U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Utah and Professor
of Law at the University of Utah College of law. Paul has been educated with a B.A.
1981, Economics, Stanford University and J.D. 1984, Stanford Law School, Stanford
University.
After reading his book my thought are to keep the death penalty, how can our system
release a murderer knowing they may repeat the crime? States need to have a stronger
conviction for those that commit murder and enforce capital punishment. Criminals have
no remorse on their innocent victim.

DPIC, DEALTH PENALTY INFORMATION CENTER, (Web. 8 Aug. 2015).

Long-term imprisonment is more expensive than the death penalty in the end. A study of
the death penalty in California in 2011 showed that the cost of housing a death-row
inmate was $100,000 per year more than the cost of housing someone sentenced to life
without parole. The process is dragged out to long costing way too much time and money.

The DPIC is a website that gives a lot of information on the death penalty and
information regarding each state.
Friedman, Lauri S., Dudley Sharp. The Death Penalty: Opposing Viewpoints. Detroit, MI:
Greenhaven, 2011. Print.
In trials leading to the death sentence, with the evidence convicting an innocent person.
The Death penalty receives more oversight than any other government program.
Execution is such a serious and permanent punishment, capital cases receive intense
scrutiny and are reviewed multiple times.
There are numerous reason for an innocent person to be wrongly convicted, from an eye
witness to hearsay. When going on trial for murder the case is reviewed heavily to make
sure the correct person is committed for the crime.
OADP, Oregonians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty, 4 Mar. 2015. Web.
An National Coalition advocates opposing the death penalty, some reasons for wanting to
abolish the death penalty are, executions are carried out at a high cost to tax payer, capital
punishment does not deter crime, states cannot prevent execution of innocent people, race
plays a role in who lives and dies, capital punishment is applied arbitrarily,

The

group

fights for murderers to get life in prison without parole. The feel its inhumane to use the
death penalty. The OADP is a web site that gives lots of information on why the death
penalty should be abolished.
Palmer, Brandon. Personal Interview 5 Aug. 2015

The death penalty should never be a moral issue, when the courts find sufficient evidence
to hand down the verdict of Capital punishment, the system should execute the convicted
right then instead of giving them a chance. If somebody kills another person they should
pay with their life. An eye for an eye is what it comes down to, Brandon Palmer a friend
shared his view and thoughts of the death penalty.
