    I’m committed to taking steps to ensure central Brooklyn continues to be a safe place to live and raise a family. However, this takes a community effort. That’s why, on Aug. 4, I’ll be joining nearly 40 million Americans in observing National Night Out – an annual event designed to prevent crime and drug abuse by showcasing community strength and determination. “Events like National Night Out have helped drive down the crime rate. Since this event was started in 1984, violent crime has dramatically fallen in New York State. In fact, despite a population increase of nearly 2 million, the number of violent crimes fell from 162,157 in 1984 to 76,596 in 2013. But, we can do more. I look forward to participating in National Night Out on Tuesday because by working together, we can make central Brooklyn better.

    Im committed to taking steps to ensure central Brooklyn continues to be a safe place to live and
    raise a family. However, this takes a community effort. Thats why, on Aug. 4, Ill be joining
    nearly 40 million Americans in observing National Night Out an annual event designed to
    prevent crime and drug abuse by showcasing community strength and determination.
