Case Study 7.1
Refer to page 183 in your text book communicating as Professionals from
Archee et al. (2013)
Read Case Study 7.1 and do the following:
Discuss the issues as stated on page 183

Example from personal experiences has left positive impact on group.


If there would be equality in a group then there could be better interpersonal
communication. Due to equality there will be confidence in all the group members.
Similarly assertiveness, expressiveness, self-monitoring, immediacy and interaction
management can also help in interpersonal communication.

Read Case Study 7.2 and do the following:
Answer the 5 points as given in the discussion.

Tuan will feel little encouragement after hearing Pat and Kerrys responses. After
hearing Kalis response Tuan will think that he should have talked to Lee on the
spot.
No such response is an empathy blocker.
Responses of Pat and Kerry are good in increasing his encouragement. And the
responses of Kali and Sam can encourage exploration of meaningful
communication.

Case Study 7.3


Refer to page 196 in your text book communicating as Professionals from
Archee et al. (2013)
Read Case Study 7.3 and do the following:
Answer the 5 points as given in the discussion.

Lecturers European accent, murmuring of the students at the back, reaching in


class late etc were some of the barriers she experienced.
If she would have been able to overcome these barriers then she could have
become a good listener.
There should be cross questioning during the lecture.
When I used to sit in class some of my friends used to talk during the lecture. That
sometimes was hindrance in understanding the lecture. I learnt from such
situations that we should sit on the front where there is no such disturbance and
we can easily absorb lecture.
5- Mobile phones and laptop are hindrance in classroom. Because sometimes we
may get busy in our laptops and lose some part of the teachers conversation.
And we lose our connection of understanding.
