BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS (Central Marks Department-1, Business Development) Our Ref: CMD1(BD)/IS 694 Date: 09 March 2015 Sub: Implementation of IS 694:2010 ‘This has reference to the notification dated 26.11.2014 establishing IS 694:2010 and also informing the date of cancellation of IS 694:1990 as 1" March 2015. Accordingly, all the ROs/BOs of BIS were requested vide our note ref: CMD-II (LY/IS 694 dated 08 Jan 2015 to bring this information to the notice of the BIS licensees and advise them to take further steps for switching over to the revised version of IS 694. Meanwhile, comments were received from many manufacturers on the revised IS 694. They also expressed their difficulty in switching over to this revised version due to certain shortcomings in the Indian Standard. Moreover, for implementing the revised 1S, fresh testing of samples would be required, which may take some time. Keeping the above in view, the competent authority has agreed to extend the date of cancellation of 1S 694:1990 by six months, i.e. 01 September 2015, Thus, IS 694:1990 and IS 694:2010 are to run concurrently till 31 August 2015. It may also be noted that no further extension would be granted, Circulated to all ROs/BOs/SBOs for information.
