Induction Plan for Classified Staf
The development and implementations of an induction plan is
vital to the cohesion and solidarity of our school. All staf members,
including classified staf, must be involved in achieving the ultimate
goal of our school: increasing student achievement. Although certified
staf members carry the greatest responsibility to educate our
students, this process could not be possible without the meaningful
involvement of classified staf. Regardless of title or certification, every
staf member within the school must work together to achieve our
common goals. In many schools, there can be a divide between
classified staf and certified staf. This divide can be very detrimental
to the success of a school. Conversely, a unified staf will do the
greatest good for the students as possible. Because all staf members
have a role to play in attaining an increase in student achievement, all
classified staf will be included in school and district initiatives.
Classified staf will be assigned defined roles for each initiative,
assisting students and faculty in meeting achievement goals.
To begin the school year, all classified staf will join the certified
staf for professional development on the first day of meetings. On this
first day, classified staf will join the certified staf in all activities. For
this reason, professional development activities on this day will include
endeavors that are relevant to all staf members. Activities would
include trainings relevant to all staf such as Response to Intervention
and Multi-Tiered System of Supports, technology training and
classroom integration, as well as Green Dot Bullying and Harassment
training. Staf will also partake in confidentiality training, as well as a
review of the staf handbook.
All staf members will be a part of Professional Learning
Communities (PLCs) throughout the school year. This will help build a
culture of data-driven decision making and keep student achievement
as our first priority. Professional Learning Communities for classified
staf will consist of topics relevant to the employees professional work.
The topic of the first year of PLCs for classified staf will be Positive
Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS). Classified staf members
will be asked to monitor one particular behavior in need of intervention
they encounter on a regular basis. Some examples of behaviors include
running in the halls, inappropriate electronics use in class,
inappropriate language or dialogue, keeping hands to ones self, etc.
Using the strategies outlines by PBIS, classified staf will be asked to

focus on mitigating this behavior. PLC meetings will be a time to

discuss the negative behaviors they encounter, how they are using
PBIS strategies to mitigate these behaviors, and to brainstorm ways to
improve practices. Meetings for Professional Learning Communities will
occur once per month for one hour, totaling 9 hours for the school
year. Professional Learning Communities will meet before or after
regularly scheduled work times and will be paid for separately from the
regularly scheduled work day.
Classified staf members will also engage in other professional
development opportunities throughout the school year. The purpose of
professional development for classified staf is to align staf members
with the vision and goals of the school district, and to provide the
necessary skills to do so successfully. Twenty total hours will be spent
on professional development each year, including time working with
Professional Learning Communities.
All classified staf professional development will occur on days
where school dismisses two hours early for professional development.
All staf members will meet together when professional development is
pertinent to both certified and classified staf on these days. One
example of possible professional development in which both certified
and classified staf would be a part of is PBIS. This training would
benefit all staf members, because it will improve staf response to
behavior interventions, creating a school environment conducive to
learning and student achievement. When certified staf professional
development does not pertain to classified staf, separate trainings will
be ofered.
Classified personnel are contributing team members within the
school. Each individual has specific roles to play in meeting the
schools vision and goals. The roles of our classified staf are to support
certified staf in the goal of increasing student achievement, and to be
positive role models for our students. Professional development
opportunities and staf evaluations will work to improve the stafs
fulfillment of these roles. To create cohesiveness among the staf, it is
expected that all classified staf members will adhere to all school
policies outlined in the staf handbook. At the beginning of the school
year, during professional development time, all staf members will
participate in a review of the major components of the staf handbook.
Furthermore, all staf members must work to create a positive and
enjoyable working environment for everyone. Because all staf are
valued team members within the school, all staf will be invited and
encouraged to attend any staf gatherings that occur throughout the
year.

Confidentiality holds the utmost importance in our school. All

staf members are expected to maintain confidentiality in every facet
of their job. Often times, confidentiality breaches occur in casual
conversation. Classified staf will be held to the same standards as
certified staf in this matter. All classified staf are team members in
the pursuit of academic excellence for our students, using their
knowledge and skills to work collaboratively and professionally.
Confidentiality is a major piece of professionalism and is an
expectation on the job. At the beginning of each school year, all staf
members will spend professional development time participating in
confidentiality training. This training will be ofered online. At the end
of this professional development session, all staf members will sign an
agreement that explains the expectations for staf members regarding
confidentiality.
Because classified staf can turnover throughout the school year,
all professional development for classified staf will be ofered in a way
that allows for a new staf member to immediately be a part of
professional development activities. In personal learning communities,
new classified staf will take the place of the individual they are
replacing. If new classified staf members are hired in addition to
existing positions, these employee will be added to existing
professional learning communities based on best fit as determined by
me, the Principal. New classified staf will not be expected to meet all
15 hours of professional development time. Instead, new classified
staf will complete any professional development scheduled for the
remainder of the school year. New classified staf will be asked to
complete the online confidentiality training, as well as sign the
confidentiality agreement, before they can begin work.
As Principal, I will ensure the induction plan is being successfully
implemented in various ways. First of all, I will meet with any new
classified staf three times throughout their first year to review work
performance, discuss general thoughts on how well the year is going
and make suggestions for improvement. Prior to the meeting, classified
staf members will be asked to complete a self-assessment form. The
form would include the job description components for each classified
staf position, and would ask the individual to assess their
efectiveness on meeting each of these components. An example of a
paraprofessional evaluation is provided in Appendix A. This will help
new classified staf members to understand expectations and improve
their practices. Secondly, I will observe each Professional Learning
Community at least twice per year. This will ensure that the goals of
the Professional Learning Communities are being met. These meetings
are consistent with classified staf contracts, in terms of probationary
periods, as well as overall evaluation.
