Mobile Learning Lesson Plan Assignment
Subject: 2D and 3D shapes (Math)
Grade Level: 2nd Grade
Objective: Students will identify and name 2D and 3D shapes.
Apps: Snap Chat, Poll Everywhere, and Cyberchase Shape Quest
Instructional Plan:
*Before this assignment, students will have already been introduced to the concept
of 2D (plane) shapes and 3D (solid) shapes.*
*Before this lesson, I will divide students up into teams of 3. I will interview each
team to see which students have Mobile devices or tablets at home that they can
bring to school on the designated date. I will send home letters to parents
explaining the purpose of the lesson, why their children will need to bring in their
devices, and asking for their permission. The students who can bring in their
devices will bring them in before this lesson, so they can download the appropriate
apps and create accounts if necessary.*
1. Students will be reintroduced to the topic through BrainPop Jr. videos which
will be played whole group. As we go through the videos, I will ask questions to
check for students understandings of the material.
2. After the video, as a class we will sum up the differences between 2D and 3D
shapes.
3. I will then introduce the following question to my students: Are shapes
everywhere? Students will be able to share their thoughts and beliefs.
4. Students will then be informed that they are now going to participate in a 2D
and 3D shapes scavenger hunt throughout the school.
5. I will split students up into their already established teams. I will pass out the
student checklist and pull up the PowerPoint which will display the guidelines.
a. There are three students in every group because one student will need to
check off the shape on the list, one will need to take the picture, and one
student should be in the picture. Students can take turns with the roles.
b. Students will need to make sure to include the name of the shape which
they took a picture of in their Snap Chat which they will send to me.
i. As students are sending their Snap Chats to me, I will be checking
them off on my master list.

Students will be sent out to begin the scavenger hunt; they will go throughout
the school, find examples of 2D and 3D shapes and Snapchat a picture with the
name to me.
After scavenger hunt is done, teams will take an anonymous poll about whether
or not they enjoyed the activity.
If time permits: Students will be able to play the CyberChase Shape Quest
game which is an app that will be downloaded.
For teams who have no one that can bring in a device, I will check out Ipad
tablets from the library*
