General Objective: The study aims to reduce the contaminants present in domestic greywater by integrating a vertical-flow, modified nutrient-film

technique hydroponic system planted with water spinach for utilization of the wastewater at the same time able to grow a vertical garden
Specific Objective
1. Design and construct to design and construct a gradual
vertical-flow hydroponic system that would be able to improve
the water quality of domestic greywater.

2. Determine the effect hydraulic loading rate on the reduction

efficiency of the hydroponic system on the contaminants
present in the domestic wastewater in terms of the following
wastewater parameters;
a.) Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD)
b.) pH
c.) Color
d.) Odor
3. Evaluate the kinetics of BOD removal of water spinach in a
modified nutrient film technique hydroponic system design.
4. Compare the final effluent characteristics with the national
standards for wastewater treatment effluents.
5. Determine the economic feasibility of constructing and
application to the hydroponic wastewater treatment system to
the target community.
