CONTEXTUAL FACTORS

MDD Standard 1
The teacher candidate collects data regarding the institutional and classroom
contexts, the characteristics of the pupils as a group and its diversity, using this
information to plan and deliver instruction.
1. Community in which the school is located and/or serves, municipality
or owner and school factors: Below, describe the geographic location,
community and school population, socioeconomic profile, and race/ethnicity.

The school called Adelaida Miguieles Soto is located in Balmaceda N180

in the center of Coronel, in the VIII region of Chile. Due to the place
where is situated many children from different parts of the town come to
study there.
This is a public school. The socioeconomic profile is medium low,
according to SIMCE 2014 the incomes per family vary from $220.001 to
$340.000; students there have a vulnerable status.
The school population is around 400 students.

1.1.
How These Factors May Impact My Lessons: Explain specific ways
that these factors may impact your lesson topics, teaching strategies,
assessment techniques, etc.
The main impact that I can have is the students social behavior, most of
them do not have help from their parents and friends about this subject and
the teacher must have to help them in all aspects of this; thus, my lessons
should be clear, easy, didactics for a better understanding and
understandable.
2. Student Characteristics and Their Instructional Implications: Below,
describe how two student characteristics you observed in your student (e.g.,
gender, race/ethnicity, interests, student skill levels) might impact the way you
instruct those students. For example, your planning, motivation, management,
or assessment. For each example of the student characteristic, give a specific
instructional implication that will influence how you plan and implement your
instruction.
2.1 Description of First Characteristic of Student(s) in this Class:
The first student is a 12 years old girl that is a bit shy and did not
participate in class, but when the teacher makes her participate she
demonstrates a good level of English, she is very responsible and has
good marks and when she is with her classmates is very sociable.
2.1.1 How This Characteristic Will Impact my Lesson:
These characteristics will impact my lesson in the sense that I will have
to encourage the student to participate in classes with active activities;
also the motivation, clear and understandable instructions and games in
the planning will have a point that I will have to consider to enhance her
personality.

2.2 Description of Second Characteristic of Students in this Class:
The second students is a 12 years old boy, he is very enthusiastic, he
has a very good level of English and he shows it, he likes participate in
classes and is very sociable.
2.2.1 How This Characteristic Will Impact my Lesson
These characteristics will have a positive impact in my lesson, because I
will have to use interesting and enthusiastic activities as in the previous
case, I could use games and implement social activities to continue
developing his participatory personality.
3. Physical Aspects of the Classroom and Their Instructional Implications:
Below, describe how two physical aspects of the classroom you observed (e.g.,
posters, room arrangement, technology) might impact the way you instruct
students, for example, planning, motivation, management, or assessment. For
each example, give a specific instructional implication that will influence how
you plan and implement your instruction.
3.1 Description of First Physical Aspect:
The room arrangement, in the classroom there are three rows of tables,
one in the left side, another in the middle and the other one in the right
side, the tables are for two people and all students are sitting in pairs.
3.1.1 How This Aspect Will Impact My Lesson
This will impact my lesson in the way of how to monitor students and at
the moment of giving instructions, the room arrangement is good
because I can walk through the classroom and see all students along it,
and when I am in front all of them can see and hear me; hence, I can
explain the lesson and do the activities and group activities without
problem.
3.2 Description of Second Physical Aspect:
The projector does not have good connection, the cords are in the UTP
room and the teacher has to ask for one, also there is not a panel to
project the images.
3.2.1How This Aspect Will Impact My Lesson
This will impact my lesson when I will go to project a picture or text this
one could not look good, because the images will be projected in the
whiteboard which is stained and that could be a problem; thus, I will
have to be very careful at the moment to choose a text and a picture,
these will be clear and big, and if there is any problem I will have to print
some extra material.
4. Reflects on the importance of knowing about students and the context
to provide quality teaching
It is important to know all of this things at the moment of take decisions,
because we have to take into account the needs of our students and the
situation that we will face before planning, if we want to provide a
quality teaching and be successful on that we have to observe and
research about these things, effectives teachers will have effectives
classes.
