Michigan! Our own District One Vice President, Christopher Shelton was elected President of the Communication Workers of America union, on the first day. It was sad to see outgoing President Larry Cohen leave but he will be continuing his passion of organizing. Chris Shelton, our new President, gave a great speech on the second day. He outlined his hopes for CWA over the next four years. He gave a history of his life.how he came from a strong union family in the Bronx, New York. His parents were Irish immigrants. His Mom was a school teacher and helped form her teachers union. His Dad was a postal worker and an active member and steward of his union. Chris will, with ALL of our help: -help ALL locals to be strong and militant at the bargaining tables. -fight big money. -fight Wall Street because they are taking life out of Main Street.
-fight ALL discrimation.
-guide our members as we fight side by side. Chris got the floor all on their feet and shouting.SOLIDARITY FOREVER! As a member of Local 1000, I went to Detroit on my own dime. Our local registered me as a guest. And I go to the Retired Members Council meeting on the Saturday before the convention starts. I learn much about how retirees are so active in the USA. I am so thankful to be a union member of CWA. If you get a chance, the next CWA convention is in two years in Pittsburgh, Pa. Try to take vacation and go in 2017. It is well worth the time, money and trip!
