What were the reasons for producing the Mappa Mundi?
Mappa Mundi was never meant to be used as navigational
charts and it makes no pretense of showing the relative
areas of land and water. It is meant to illustrates mythical
creatures and many myths. It has Jerusalem in the
middle and points east to the Garden of Eden. This map
shows the history of the world more than the location of
many places. It also has pictures of angels around the
map and a man going into the after-life. This also
explains how people thought back then. The edge of the map depicts Judgement
Day .

What other reasons are there for
producing maps?
By making maps it makes it easier
for people to navigate the world. As
new places have been found we kept
adding it on the map of the world. It
also may help for historians to see
what happened where and how it might have happened. Maps now allows you to
plan where to go before you go somewhere and it also helps people from getting
lost.
