Topic: Main Idea and Details
Goal(s): The learner will organize information in a logical manner.
Objective(s): The learner will identify main idea and details in text. TEKS: 2.14A 2.19D Materials/Resources/Technology needs: Thanksgiving Turkey cut out, brain-pop, computer, construction paper, glue, scissors, pencils, and markers. _______________________________________________________________________ Instructional Procedures Focusing Event: The teacher will model how to come up with details to the main idea, using the main idea turkey. Teaching/ Learning Procedures: Teacher will introduce Brain-pop instructional aid on main idea. Teacher will write the main idea on the belly of the turkey. Teacher will think aloud on coming up with the details to the main idea and write it on the feathers. As a class, we will come up with 2 details that goes with the main idea. Teacher will generate a list of main ideas for students to choose from on the board. Students will be given a main idea turkey. Students will choose one main idea and write it on their turkey. They will independently come up three to four details about the main idea. Students will cut and paste the turkey onto construction paper.
Formative Check (ongoing or specific): Monitor participation and responses.
Reteach (alternative used as needed): Clarify directions and re-read as needed. Closure: Ask students to explain what a main idea and detail is in their own words?
Assessment/Summative Evaluation: Student will work independently on organizing
details on their main idea turkey. ________________________________________________________________________ Modifications/Notes: Extended time, peer tutoring, reading assistance, preferential seating, verbal description of information and check for understanding.
