Individuals are not the same; the variances include of physical appearances, such
as gender, size, shape, color, cognitive development such as memory and intelligence,
personality, and many more aspects. Children develop at different speeds and at any
given age; however, usually within less than year of one another. Some are fast learners,
some learn at a normal pace, as where others fall behind in other cases. Children grow
and learn from their parents throughout their life. Parents are the first contact that
children have and it is important to start building a relationship with your child at birth.
Parent/child bonding will help form a healthy family atmosphere and relationship and
promote proper development. Children grow physically, cognitively, emotionally, and
socially; not only do these developments in children progress naturally but also with the
communication with human interaction and their environments.
It is important to have a strong bond with children. The mother and child is the
first bond that should ever be made. You want them to feel comfortable/safe in their
environment. The bond teaches them that they can count on you at the same time, be
stern and teach right from wrong. It is also important to have a powerful bond between
the mother and child or the main caregiver. A parent's interaction with the child also has
great influences on their growth, development and learning abilities. There are certain
ways to parent each child. All children should be treated equal; however, different. You
would not treat a typical child the same as one that reveals atypical development or that
have exceptionalities.
Every child is unique and learn at their own pace. Some just need the extra push
to help them. Atypical children are those who aren't developing properly, they need

more attention and structured learning. Proper intervention such as therapy is needed
to get them to prosper to their capabilities. Even some severely handicap can still be in
therapy to help succeed with their own capabilities. Therapy is also offered to the family
to assist with any other help that may be needed. Children with exceptionalities are
those who are developmental advanced. Even though these kids come with incredible
talent, it is still important to have a bond with them. These types of children should be
pushed as well. They should be taught that there is still room for more success. To help
them continue their journey they should be placed in advanced programs at school and
other learning activities as well.
Parents usually monitor the growth/development of their child from birth up.
Monitoring consist of the physical, social, and cognitive process. Play time is important
for all children. Playing encourages their ability to develop. This gives children a sense
of happiness and nurture that is needed for proper growth. Smiling, crawling, moving
objects, walking, and talking are examples of developmental abilities that are essentially
needed. Bronfenbrenner stated, Growth starts off through the parents, family and the
environment. But then grows further by the interactions between family, schools,
community programs, sports, etc. (Berk, 2014). Vygotsky feels that a childs social
interactions and cultural experiences plays a role in their individual development (Berk,
2014). Piaget feels that there is stages to the development/growth of a child. He feels
that the child has to crawl before they walk. Or has to baby talk before they can actually
speak words (Berk, 2014). Without proper human interaction, it is hard for the child to
develop on time. Each developmental theorist possesses their own distinctive ideas
about numerous aspects of human development. I feel as if there is no one aspect of

development that is more important or significant than the other; genetics,

environment, social, and cultural aspects of life collaborate in order to contribute to
cognitive development. I have always been a firm believer that all children are different;
they learn and grow at different paces and stages in their lives and should be treated as
such.
