Curriculum at WIS:
Switched On Computing

Switched On Computing

Covers the new Programme of Study for computing. 6 units per


year group; programming, computational thinking, creativity,
computer networks, communication/ collaboration and productivity.

Order of units can be changed within the year group but must stay
within the year group e.g. Year 1 programming module must be
taught before the Year 2 programming module.

Delivers clear progression of skills from Year 1 to Year 6

Supports teachers of all levels of experience with software demos


and detailed step-by-step planning

Embeds e-Safety to ensure safe and responsible use of technology

Implications of
Switched On Computing
Initial investment in the scheme, software and
hardware.
Scheme ordered and delivered before March 2015 in
order for high- quality staff training to be planned in for
Term 3.
Installation of all free and purchased software onto
teachers laptops and school desktops by Term 3.
Installation of all free and purchased APPs onto all 88
iPads by Term 3.
Regular maintenance and upgrades of all software and
APPs.
At least 3 staff meeting sessions dedicated to the new
Switched on Computing Curriculum in Term 2.

Timeline

December 2014- Scheme, software and hardware all ordered.


December 2014- KAS/ SAB to visit GEMS RDS to see Switched On
Computing in action.
December 2014- SAB/ KAS meet with Thaha/ ICT Team regarding
the installation of all free software.
February 2015- Switched On Computing scheme arrives.
February 2015- All free software to be installed on to all teachers
laptops.
March 2015- KAS/ SAB/ Digital Drivers to plan 3 staff training
sessions for Term 3.
April/ May 2015- Staff Training delivered.
May/ June 2015- All purchased software and APPs to be installed
on to all teachers computers
June 2015- Staff induction training planned for delivery in August.
September 2015- All Year Groups begin delivery of the Switched
On Computing Curriculum.
