Aims
Our aim is for Wellington International School to introduce
objectives outlined in the 2014 Curriculum that best suit our
students needs. These changes need to be made in full
consultation with Curriculum Leaders, Year Leaders and the Primary
Leadership Team. They will be driven by the Curriculum Leaders
and all changes will be progressive and introduced in a considered
manner. A clear rationale for all curriculum changes will be
produced and communicated in advance to all staff and parents.

Objectives

(see Action Plan hand out)

To produce a clear rationale as a through school (3-18) for

our curriculum developments and communicate this
effectively with all staff and parents.

To review and adapt all curriculum areas to best suit our

childrens needs using the MAID tool in consultation with PLT,
CLs, YLs and staff.

To introduce and embed changes gradually and effectively to

ensure consistency in standards throughout Primary.

Develop the creativity of our Curriculum through topic title

review, cross- curricula links review and topic content review.

Summary of Curriculum
Changes 2014

Significant freedom for schools to prioritise the subjects

delivered and the time taught according to their students
needs.
Computing curriculum is significantly changed and, in my
opinion, will require Specialist teaching.
In Literacy, the new programme of study is knowledgebased and places a stronger emphasis on vocabulary
development, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
In Numeracy, there are more challenging Number objectives
with formal methods introduced earlier as well the addition
of long division and algebra in Year 6.
The new Science Curriculum places a greater emphasis on
developing scientific knowledge and less emphasis on
scientific skills and understanding.

Subject Priorities/
Provision

In order to further support the Year Leaders, exact number of sessions for
each subject needs to be communicated and example timetables given.

To prioritise Specialist subjects my initial feeling would be:

1)Computing 2) PE 3) Music 4) French

PSHE to be included as a whole class session in timetables from

September 2014.

See example timetable.
