Title of Position: Internship/ Interpretive Naturalist and Environmental Education
Supervisor: Zonda Bryant, Executive Director Approximate Hours a Week: 8 10 Duration of Position: from mid-August 2015 to mid-August 2016) Compensation: This is a non-profit organization and currently all positions are voluntary Job Description: Assist with Junior Nature Club for area children, grades K-8th. Currently they meet on a three week cycle throughout the school year, starting with August 18th at the Lilly Nature Center. There will be three groups minimum, one that will meet on Tuesdays (K-2nd grade), one that will meet the following Thursday (3rd - 5th grade) and one that will meet on the following Tuesday (6th - 8th grade). You may choose a specific age group to work with throughout the year or choose to work with all of them. This club is to help children connect with nature. We call it an adventure and they experience hands on lessons, often with a game, do a related craft and enjoy a homemade treat that compliments the lesson. We also go on hikes at Celery Bog. Because of parents requests, we will be offering a summer program as well. We will also be beginning a pilot program to work directly with schools to create Living Schoolyards on their school grounds. This will require time going to participating elementary schools and assisting teachers and students as they develop and implement their project. This is part of a national initiative promoted by the Children & Nature Network. Duties:
Help with getting supplies ready for the meeting
Setting up at the Lilly Nature Center before the meeting and cleaning up after Guide children through each of the activities Interact with parents when needed Assist teachers and students in the Living Schoolyards program Meet once between each meeting with director for planning
Requirements:
Must love kids! And should love nature.
Enjoy sharing your knowledge with others Have a good, solid background in natural sciences Able to handle a little chaos Have good time management skills Will need to be stern as needed, but otherwise have a playful heart
