Past and current video installation practice

From your research into video installation, give two examples that you think influence your work / ideas
in some way.
One should be a past practitioner, the other should be contemporary.
Past Practitioner
Name:

Bill Viola

Biography

Was born in 1951 in New York City.

Viola is looked up to in the generation of artists whose artistic
expression depends upon electric, sound and image
technology in New Media.

Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet

Images

!
Notes on their installation
Viola's art deals largely with the central themes of human
consciousness and experience

Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet

How is it similar to your ideas?

I will be using a screen to display my video instillation.

Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet

Contemporary Practitioner
Name:
Biography

Spartacus Chetwynd

Images

She was born in 1973 in London where she works and lives
now. Her Video Installations displays important events in
cultural history in a extremist way.

Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet

Notes on their installation

She likes to make her work stand out and present them in
new and interesting ways.

How is it similar to your ideas?

Just like Chetwynds work i will be using my enviroment to my
full ability as she has used most of the area around her video
installation for props i will be doing the same displaying
relevant items to enhance my theme.

Sound design
What sound will your FMP / Productions have?

All my pieces of Video installation will be a mixture of diegetic and non diabetic sounds.
Will you
or
sound?

use headphones
speakers for this

I Will be
speaker
a bigger
my video
long it
for more
view and

using a large
as i want to attract
audience as well as
being 23 minutes
need to be capable
than one person to
hear my installation.

Why?

Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet

So the audience can hear more clearly as other exhibitions will display sound too as well as the amount
of time it will take for each audience member to view it if it had to be heard using earphones
individually..

Lighting design
What lighting will you have in your installation? Consider health and safety.

I will have soft fluerecent lighting around my exibition as it is the fixed lighting in the room where my
video installation has been placed.

Sketch out your lighting plans for the installation.

Projection vs screen
Will you project your video or play it on a screen?

I will play my video onto a screen

Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet

Why?

The visuals will be of better quality

If you are using a screen, will you

use a single screen, or multiple
screens?

I will use an individual screen to display

my videos as my main clip is a
documentary using more than one screen
will be to distracting for the audience to
concentrate.

If you are projecting what will

you project ONTO? (ie fabric,
screen, materials etc)

How will that change how your

audience READS your animation?

I will print out my preproduction

booklet, Pitch and relevant information
so the audience can look in my detail
regarding the video installation.

Unit 35 Installation Production Booklet

Technological convergence
What is technological convergence?

is the tendency that technology changes, different technological systems sometimes evolve toward
performing similar tasks
Will you be using this in your installation?

no i will not be using it

Explain your answer.
i do not have a use for it.
