Global Wind Day 2015

National Institiue of Wind Energy (NIWE) and WWF-India celebrated Global Wind Day 2015
at NIWE campus , Pallikaranai on 15.06.2015 where 75 teachers and 120 students from various schools
participated for model; making competitions on Renewable Energy, Wind Enegy, Recyclable Energy
Etc. Dr.Gomathy Nayagam, Director General, NIWE inaugurated the model making competitions in
the presence of Ad.Director Mr.Kumaravel and NGC coordinator Mr.G.Thangaraj who guided and
monitored the event. Students created models in 2 hours duration with their own ideas and creativity
and a teachers workshop was also held parallely on Wind Energy. Dr.Varsha Joshi IAS Joint Secy
MNRE, Govt of India gave away prizes to students of Daniel Thomas school, Koyambedu, Pon
Vidyashram, Thiruvanmiyur and Anataram School, Vedaranyam who created best models on the
topic. Mr.S.Saravanan WWF who coordinated the event, proposed the vote of thanks.

Newcastle Law School

Master visual arts at Kalashetra

Painting, sculpting, ceramics, photography and heritage Kalashetra Foundations Rukmini Devi College of Fine Artsis offering
one-year certificate and four-year diploma courses that encompass
all these subjects and provides a holistic view of the visual arts.
The four-year course with eight semesters, for which applications
are now open, will deal with subjects like Indian Art, academic
studies, sculpture, computer and photography and so on. When
students finish this course, they understand art in all its spheres.
They are not blind to one or ignorant of the other. This helps them
mix and match and evolve as an artist, says Priyadarshin Govind,
director, Kalashetra Foundation. The one-year certificate course
concentrates on Indian art, academic studies, sculpture, ceramics
and printmaking. Students who wish to shift to a four-year diploma
on completingthe short course have the option of doing so. The
course has been there for a while but the old one was fluid. Now,
we have added more theory and other dimensions, making it intense
and heavy. The students, at the end of the course, are well qualified,
says Lakshmi Krishnamurthy, head of the visual arts department.
Rm.Palaniappan, who helped form the new syllabus with Lakshmi,
says the fine tuning of the syllabus was done to match the
contemporary ways of the world. We incorporated Indian aesthetics
into the course. Also, people dont learn painting or sculpture
separately. Everything is integrated into it. We also have subjects
that address theatre like stage and jewellery design, he explains.
