The program consists of a Dirndl-Competition,


three Fireworks, two Family-Days, a hand
lantern parade for kids and a backstage tour.
You can get a special festival-beer from the
local brewery "Brauerei Herrenhausen", the
"Lttje Lage" (an alcoholic speciality of
Hannover) and many food from Lower Saxony
and Bavaria. With around one million visitors
each year, it is the second-largest Oktoberfest
in Germany.

Drinking hours

Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m to 10:30


p.m. (between 10 and 12 am only nonalcoholic beverages and small snacks)
Saturday, Sunday and holiday from 09:00 a.m.
to 10:30 p.m. "Kfers Wiesnschnke" and
"Weinzelt" open until 01:00 a.m., last drinks at
12:15 a.m.

It is a 16-dayfolk festivalrunning from late


September to the first weekend in October. the
festival is now 17 days when the first Sunday
is October 2 and 18 days when it is October 1.

How is celebrated?

the Oktoberfest is the largest festival in the


world,
with
an
international
flavor
characteristic of the 21th century: some 6
million visitors from all around the world
converge on the Oktoberfest each year. It
usually lasts 17 days and features 140 rides
and inns, two large beer tents seating more
than a thousand people each, and numerous
stands, beer gardens and five small beer tents
offering food and refreshments.

CELEBRATION

The celebration begins with a parade which is headed by


the mayor and represents the arrival of the Wirte, who
were the owners of the beer, the place.
This event is regarded as opening the event, which in
turn is accompanied by a merry band; Then at 12:00
pm, the mayor uncovered a keg throwing 12 gun salute
to begin serving and fully enjoy.
Then also it takes place a parade in typical clothes, held
annually since 1950 and makes the event quaint and
pleasant despite being seven kilometers to go from the
castle to the place of celebration.

Traditional Food

The visitors eat huge amounts of traditional


hearty
fare
such
as
Hendl
(chicken),
Schweinsbraten (roast pork), Haxn (knuckle of
pork), Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), Wrstl
(sausages) along with Brezn (Pretzel), Kndeln
(potato or bread dumplings), Kaasspotzn (cheese
noodles),
Reiberdatschi
(potato
pancakes),
Sauerkraut or Rotkraut (red cabbage) along with
such Bavarian traditional food as Obatzda (a
fatty, spiced cheese-butter concoction) and
Weisswurst (a white sausage).
