Students of this generation are highly literate in the ways of technology, especially when it
comes to the use of Internet web tools. In todays society, everywhere you look, there are
students who are using different types of multimedia tools to ensure they can keep in touch with
family, friends, events and information. (Papp and Matulich, 2012,)
Some tools that have proven to be effective in the past for teachers, students and parents
alike were naturally the telephone followed by e-mail. The telephone is a different creature and
it continues to evolve. Students of all ages are using web tools to play educational games on
their phones and communicate with friends and family.

Technology to Enhance Communication:

The SeeSawMe tool will be used to communicate with parents in order to inform them of
the daily activities that their child is participating in and collaborating with the teacher about the
lessons being taught. Parents will also be able to monitor their childs activities and class work
in real time. This communication tool enables parents to interact with their children in creating a
journal outside of the classroom environment. This tool will be used to communicate with
students in ways that allow students themselves independently and with peers to create new
journal entries. Many students work better when they collaborate with others. This tool will be
used to communicate with the global community by sharing work created by students with the

online learning community, whether on a classroom website or via blog. Social networks create a
learning environment that allows student-centred learning, and end-user content creation and
sharing. (Cochrane, 2009,).

This tool will be used to communicate with parents through this interactive website.
Teachers can send daily text messages to all of their students parents in little to no time.
Teachers can inform parents of important school events Teachers can personalize emails with
notes in the system. This system keeps parents and teachers connected in a more expedient
manner than the traditional communication tools. Teachers can inform parents and students
about new information. The fastest growing accessibility and capability of emerging
technologies have fashioned enormous possibilities of designing, developing and implementing
innovative teaching methods in the classroom. ( Hussain, M. A., Niwaz, A., Zaman, A., Dahar,
M. A., & Akhtar, M. S. 2010).

Remind is a way that teachers can send text messages to parents and students in a safe way.
There is no need to fear that someone that the text is not intended for will have access to the
information. Phone numbers are kept confidential and the amount of time saved in the
communication process is priceless because the teacher can send text messages to all of their
students at one time. There is also a feature that allows one to view the history of the chats and

announcements. Teachers can use this tool to remind students of any assignment on any topic to
help students and parents be aware of and understand the lessons. The teacher understands and
uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of
content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.

www.Padlet.com
Padlet is a great tool for teachers to communicate with students with. I allows teachers to
collaborate with management, parents and students alike. Padlet can also be used to help
teachers publish classroom websites. Padlet allows students, parents and teachers to
communicate on a topic of interest. The board that the users express themselves on can be made
private. This would prevent any unwanted expressions from those outside of the organization. .
Efficient and instant communication can help students, teachers, and parents get the answers that
they need and this will aid them in sharing information with others.
Communication Internet Security and Safety
With statistics indicating the amount of children using the Internet, it is imperative that teachers
take an active role in addressing Internet safety. 93% of all 5-15 year-olds used the internet in
2013. Social networking sites play a major role in the lives of children today. (NSPCC, 2013).
Cyber bullying, or being a keyboard gangster seems to be a trend in the world of social networks.
38% of young people have been affected by cyberbullying (NSPCC, 2013). Sexual content
floods the sites and it seems to be acceptable by many of todays youth, along with gambling and
all types of unsavory characters that prey on children. . Students must be warned about the

dangers of sharing their personal information, especially their location. Therefore, training
children on the use of the Internet as a tool to collect information or fact finding in elementary
schools has become an important and challenging issue for teachers as disorientation by
misleading or inappropriate information on the Web is one of the major problems that novice
pupils tend to have while navigating the Internet. (Dias, Gomes, & Correia, 1999). Schools
must provide pertinent information about internet safety to school staff, parents, and students
alike. Since students are very young when they start using the computer, it is never too early to
begin informing those students and their parents about the dangers associated with internet usage
and the ways to keep their children safe while on the Internet. Computers were used
successfully with preschool age children in emergent literacy. (McKenny & Voogt, 2009; Saine,
Lerkkanen, Ahonen, Tolvanen, & Fellahm 2013). Many young children have internet skills that
enable them to search the internet. This skill void of internet maturity leave them vulnerable
and unaware of the dangers associated with searching the internet. With that said; supervision is
necessary when young children are using the computer. Social networking sites can pose a
danger as well.
In conclusion, educators have upgraded their communication with parents and students through
the use of e-mail and school websites and other communication technology. Teachers are
developing stronger internet skills that help the teacher completed their workload more
expeditiously. Parents understand the benefits of technology today as well. Todays technology
helps parents get involved in the lives and education of their children. They can now
communicate with their childrens teachers via cell phone or e-mail, text-message, blog, podcast
to name a few. As technology grows in our classrooms, we must be diligent in keeping our
students safe from the wiles of the Internet as they grow into global digital citizens.
