1994: A Year to Remember

The year 1994, a Chinese zodiac year of the dog was not only memorable
because it was the year when I was born, but then also, it was a historical year for the
Philippines because of its notable events.
It was Fidel V. Ramos and Joseph Estrada who were the incumbent president
and vice president respectively, during that year. The barangay elections in 42,000
barangays were also held all over the country.
Year 1994 boosted the pride of the Philippines. It was the month of May after my
birth month, the 43rd Miss Universe pageant was held in Manila. I wonder how the
Filipinos were excited to witness the pageant for it is obviously a pride of our country.
Moreover, it was also a blessed year for our athletes because of their win in the 1994
Asian Games ranking as 14th with 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 8 bronze medals
with a total of 13 over-all medals.
The year 1994 has also been a disastrous year for the Philippines. Numerous
typhoons occurred. Pinatubo volcano has erupted and killed a lot of people. A
magnitude of 6.7-8.1 earthquake also struck the country. Unexpected small bomb
explosion happened on Philippine Airlines Flight 434 before the year ends which killed a
Japanese businessman. Aside from this, crimes were widespread in different part of the
country resulting to the restoration of the death penalty.
Im 20 years old now, and it was my first time to know such things happened on
the year I was born. It was a great realization that I should be aware of our history.
Never forget it because it already past but instead learn from it because it is why we
have the things at the present. Every year in the history has its significant events to

remember, but in every peoples life, his birth day, month and year will ever be the most
significant of all.
