When you think about COPPA and the Acceptable Use of
Information Technology-Student Agreement and Permission for
Student Access and Use of the Internet, how do they work
together? How were the decisions made regarding students 12
and under, and the use of 3rd party tools?

Get permission for all avenues so teachers can do a lot with
this device.-Evolving

More of a burden on websites than on school districts.
Data privacy-teachers may use a varietycollecting and
sharing student data on the internet.

2. How do we prevent and/or respond to inappropriate use of 3rd
party tools, such as Snap Chat or Facebook?

3. In situations where students have done things at home
(cyber bullying or other disruptive behaviors), but on a
school device, is it subject to search?

If we own the device we can. Forms state we can search their device.
If suspected to do something illegal-sell drugs
Alledged violations of district policies
More confident in a school owned device
Cell phone-reasonable belief-can search


We have had kids make threats to each other on Facebook
Depends on the facts-threating to a fight at school
Texts during the school day-student on the other end is feeling threatened
Parents will call in and want us to take care of something happening over the
summer or in the community. May be a case where principals can say it isnt my
deal.

Student Rights and Responsibility-updated yearly

Bullying training for all staff persons-3 year cycle with new employees

(judgment-counseled about cleaning up facebook page)

Separate sites for personal and professional
(Intranet)-Administrative Tools-4th one down

Students-3rd party-Use to block Facebook-got rid of it. If a student is doing
something inappropriate during the school day
