Evaluation

(Binge drinking)
Post Production Feedback
For my post-production feedback, I learned what my strengths and
weaknesses were. Since I found out how I can improve my binge-drinking
programme. My target audience was 16 to 34 because the show was based for
BBC Three.

As this was the first interview that we created, it was a big learning
experience for me because I got to learn about the conventions and
techniques of how to structure an interview based programme. We
interviewed teenagers and elderly people for their opinions which helped
me come to a conclusion to binge drinking. From the feedback that I
received about the programme, it said that we interviewed too many
elderdy people because that wasnt our target audience. We learnt from
this in the next interview that we did because we put a lot more planning
into interviewing people more relevant into our programme. There were
complaint about the sound from the interviews outside as we filmed near
the road. I thought that the idea of filming in public was good because we
could get a varied amount of responses and opinions.
When making the programme, we purposely made an fun introduction to
the show to make it appealing to a younger target audience. This relates
to our presenting style as well because we wanted to make the
atmosphere and mood of the show relaxed and chilled so that people on
the show could talk about and discuss their problems which related to
binge drinking.I received feedback from our target audience and they said
that the interview techniques were good but the show itself was too long
and got boring for people. People like the body language we used in our
interviews because it showed that we were interested in what the
interviewees were saying. I tried to use the best body language in order to
keep the audience thrilled and the interviewee as comfortable as ever.
They also said that the mode of address was good because we sounded
polite. Also, because our target audience was BBC Three, we made our
mode of address was informal. For example, when speaking, we used
appropriate slangs, spoke the way teenagers do. However, by the way we
spoke, we sounded too serious in the programme which may have put a

Goodness Duru

lot of the target audience off from continuing to watch the programme. I
believe that we tried as much to stay to people complained about the
camera shots that were used in the show and how
some werent stable enough. I have also received
feedback from my teacher about binge drinking and
she said that the interview was too long and we
should manage our time. She also said that we
should choose our interviewees carefully. Although
she said that we needed to improve our interview
skills, she said that I used good use of questioning since that I didnt look
from the paper.

The green screen for the Teen Proof programme was one of the pieces of
feedback that we got about the programme. This is the
green screen, in our right, for our interview and, as
you can see, it shows a planet in the background.
Our target audience said that this doesnt relate to
our show and topic that we talked about. This meant
that in future, we would choose better background that fit the style of the
show. From the two pictures to the right, you can see
that there is a
massive difference in the quality of the background.
This is due to us not using as much green screen in
our later interviews, as it looks professional without
taking up this much time keying it.
The pictures that are displayed also show that the clothes that we wore in
Teen proof & the clothes that we wore in our other interviews were better
in many aspects. For example, in KGN Network news show, you can see
that both Kieran and Nathan are wearing smart clothes which are quite
essential in the structure of the show as stereotypically in a news show
they were suits when presenting. From researching into BBC one goody
found out that presenters change their type of clothing to suit the target
audience they are trying to appeal to. I took this into consideration when
planning the show with the group as we discussed what type of clothes
choice we were going to wear. On the right you can see an image of the
type of clothing that was worn on the show. You can see how the dressing
are similar to each other and how presentable and professional it looks.

Goodness Duru

Overall, I was happy

with
the quality of the programme seeing as it was the first one
we made. In conclusion, I felt that even though there were
improvements needed to be made to Teen Proof, the
mistakes that we did make meant that we could learn from
them in later interviews. For example, you can see that
the greenscreen, presenting style and costume has been
improved incredibly since we made Teen Proof.

Pre-production process
For the pre-production, we had to do all the
planning such as script, storyboard and more.
However, we had to first come up with ideas
for our shows, which we did when we had
meetings in our free periods, and know what
topic we were going to talk about. After we
learnt what topic we were going to talk about,
we made a script which showed the questions
we were going to ask to our interviewees. For
the storyboard, we showed the camera shots
and angles that were going to be used in the
programme. For the intro, we had to write
down the things we wanted to say and rehear the words before shooting
it. The most important part is that we had to get interviewees and we did
that by texting them or just politely approaching them and asking them
for their permission. We had to make sure that we had the questions
written that relate to our topic. We managed our time because we went on
our free periods and planned who was doing what.

Target audience

Goodness Duru

The target audience for our show was a BBC Three audience, which has a
lot of young people since that it is age based from 16 to 34. The topic of
our show was, the danger of binge drinking and why young people tend to
drink. We did that by researching into why young people seem to drink
and the danger it can cause them. The purpose of the show was for our
target audience to somehow realise the dangers of binge drinking and
reduce their habits of drinking. In able to make sure that the show was
relevant to our target audience, we interviewed young people and asked
them their views on binge drinking. This will make young people seem
more interested to watch the programme since that they would relate to
the interviewees.
Comparison to other presenters/shows
I looked at shows such as Jonathan Ross and we used the question types
he usually uses in his interviews. I also
looked at the style and appearance of
the studio and how it links to its target
audience. We did the same thing by
green screening the background and
using a picture which is relevant to the
show and to BBC Three. I also looked at
the way Jonathan Ross dressed, which
was smart clothing. This is good
because his dressing goes with the
purpose of the show and the target audience who happened to be adults.I
also looked at his shows because of the same format which is a chat-show
and the way he presents his show in order to keep the audience
entertained.
A programme I looked at was, Dying for a Drink, on eStream, which has a
similar topic to ours but still based on binge drinking. This was targeted
for BBC Three so the programme was relevant. When I was watching this
programme, there was a lot of research made regarding the amount of
people drinking each year and the causes of binge drinking. For example,
in this programme there is a woman who is suffering from liver failure due
to the large amount of drinking. Our programme is similar because we
also did researches and looked at the side effects of drinking an amount of
alcohol.

Post Production Feedback
I received feedback from our target audience which gave me information
on the strength and weaknesses in the programme. For example, after the
feedback from the previous programme we did, we learnt that we should
have interviewed younger people and that is what we did for our news
show named KGN Network. In this way our target audience would have
felt more engaged into watching our programme, which was targeted at
them.
People liked our intro because it was interesting and it kept them laughing
which is a good thing for us because it made people want to watch more
of our programme. We watch other news such as BBC One, and looked at
the intro so we decided that we should create an intro as well before
starting the show. What people didnt like was the facts that the entire
programme was not fun as the intro which changed the mood in the show
and that made people turn away from it.
For this programme we interviewed younger people to relate to our target
audience on the topic of the Paris shooting and the banned of the film
Interview, which were recent topics when we made this. We believed that
we should have reported things that, at the time, were huge topics and we
thought that we chose the good ones. We interviewed people and asked
questions on what they thought of the film, Interview, as well as the Paris
shooting and they gave us a lot of their response. Despite giving us a lot
of responses, just like the previous interview, our target audience
complained that the programme was too long and started to bore them.
From that feedback, we learnt that we should have been aware of the

Goodness Duru

amount of time we were meant to use for the show and we should have
followed the codes and conventions.
People liked our background as a green screen because it is relevant to
our show. This shows that we learnt from our previous mistake and
decided to create a background instead of using any random picture
which have nothing to do with the programme. However, there were some
issues with covering all the keying for some reason.
We thought of doing a discussion at the end of the news show because we
believed that it would have been better for the target audience if we just
summed up everything we received from people we interviewed.
However, people complained that that idea was unnecessary because it
dragged on the news show and it also broke the conventions for a normal
news show since that it had us, as the interviewers, discussing among
ourselves about the information we received from people, which was not
relevant to the show. We learnt from this feedback that we didnt need to
add extra things that were not beneficial in the show and should have just
tried to keep the show short and simple.
People liked the body language we used in our interviews because it
showed that we were interested in what the interviewees were saying. We
thought that because this was a news show, we had behave very
professional in order to make the interviewees feel comfortable when
speaking to us. People said that they liked the way we were addressing
with our interviewees because it sounded professional and polite. We
thought this was a good thing because we would get a good review from
people such as the target audience that we behaved nicely and we didnt
sound like we were annoyed or bored
during each interview.
The target audience liked the clothing
we wore because it goes with the
conventions of a news show. Even
thought BBC Three had a young target
audience, we decided to dress formal
and stick to how news anchors and
reporters would normally dress in order to be taken seriously by the target
audience. This worked because people did not make fun of us when
watching us interviewing people.
We also received feedback from my teacher, Miss Schutze, about the news
show and she said that I needed to interview more people and had to
speak at the end because it broke the news convention since that I was
the news reporter. I learned from that feedback that because I was a reporter, I

Goodness Duru
should have interviewed many people, then could have just cut to the question
and answers when editing it so in this way I would hav gotten more point of
views from different people.

Overall, I was happy especially knowing that we did a format that we

werent really good at and I believe that the sound and quality were
brillant. I felt like we have improved in our interview techniques.

Pre-production process
For the pre-production, we had to do all the planning such as script,
storyboard and more. However, we had to first come up with ideas for our
shows, which we did when we had meetings in our free periods, and know

Target audience
The target audience for our show was a BBC Three audience, which has a
lot of young people. The topic of our show was, the Paris attack and the
Sony hacking scandal. We researched and used information that are
relevant to our topic and can keep the audience informed and interested.
The purpose of the show was for our target audience to be aware of the
things that are happening in the world currently.

Comparison to other presenters/shows

I looked at shows such as Amanpour (CNN) whose host happens to be
Christiane Amanpour and I believe that I was successful because the
similarity is that I get straight to the point. Another similarity is that I build
bridges like Christiane Amanpour would to get more information from the
interviewees. Another reason I looked at this presenter is because of the
way she used good body language and mode of address when interacting
with her interviewees. I feel like we also used good body language and

Goodness Duru

mode of address in order to seem professional and respectful.

Another show I looked at was 60 Seconds, which is a show from BBC

Three. I looked at the type of clothing the anchors wore and because most
of the target audience were young people, they wore casual dressing to
the show. This is what we did for our show except that we wore smart
casual clothes because our target audience is BBC Three. Also the way the
show was short is the same way we wanted to keep it by just going
straight to the point. Another thing is that 60 seconds does their interview
short because the target audience is BBC Three and they probably knew
that young people would get bored listening to news for too long whereas
our programme kind of dragged to long and lost is excitement.
(Relationship)
Post Production Feedback
We received feedback from our teacher and class mates, who are our
target audience, which shows our positive and negative sides in the
programme. For example, she complained that the camera we used for
our interview was a bit shaky. We needed to make sure that the camera
was screwed tight with the tripod so that the
camera did not shake. Just like all the
previous programmes we decided to make
an intro because we felt that it would lighten
the mood in the show.
People said that the opening sequence was
good and just wanted the rest of the
interview to be the same quality. With that
feedback, we realised that we should have balanced the programme. For

Goodness Duru

example, either the programme should be serious or the programme

should be fun, cant have an in-between.
We decided that we didnt need to use any green screen because we did
not want to waste time green screening the background so we decided to
use the lighting equipment and change the colours in order to make it
more appealing to our target audience. For example, we used bright
colours in the programme because of the calm topic which isnt serious
and involves both genders. We preferred how the interview looked with
the colours used for the background because it seemed natural and look
like we were in a studio. Also, people complained that that background
didnt change since that we didnt key the background.
She also said that we needed to ask more questions and make the
interviews fun and relevant to the show, which is targeted at BBC Three.
People said that there was some issues with the sound and it being out of
sync. This shows that we hurried a lot when editing that we didnt get to
look at our interviews properly and see if there were any mistakes. We
learnt what we should manage time in order to look at things
Some people also liked the questions we used because they were relevant
to the topic of the show. This the strength of the programme because we
asked intelligent questions in order to receive good answers. Despite that
people complained that there werent enough questions asked in the
interview Nathan and I we involved in. From this feedback we received, it
seems that we should have prepared our interviews because it by looking
at the programme it looked like we didnt have enough questions to ask
people.

Target audience
The target audience for our show was a BBC Three audience, which has a
lot of young people. The topic of our show was about relationships and
how to get in one. We also want to know why boys have to approach girls
and whether they agree to it. The purpose of this programme is for young
people who may think or are already in a relationship and receiving tips
from people who have experience.
Comparison to other presenters/shows
A show I can compare is Loose Women because of the colour setting and
lighting used in the show such as pink, light blue and other bright colours.
The colours in the studio go well with the show because Loose Womens
target audience is women. Also, the way they dress is another thing that
is similar to our show because they are
wearing smart casual dressing. We also wore
smart casual for our show since that the
target audience was BBC Three.

Post Production Feedback

In order to receive positive and negative responses, we received feedback

from people in our class and some lower 6th students on our film show,
Friday Night with KGN. People said that they liked the lip sync battle
because it was fun and exciting. The thing that people complained is that
we should have done just a round one, not a round two because it was

getting boring
after a while.
Another thing that people enjoyed about the show were the interview
techniques used in the interviews. For example, we used good body
language when interviewing our interviewees and we use a clear tone
when asking people questions. This made us look confident when
speaking to the interviewees and didnt cause any awkwardness.
Althought, we believed our programme was good people complained that

Goodness Duru

the show was too long and wasnt as exciting as the li sync, intro or the
outro. By hearing the feedback from people, it shows that we should also
make the the interviews more fun since that the topic is about films.
We felt that since that our chat show is about films we could have showed
a sneak peak of our independent short film we did called Split Choices 2
because it was relevant to the topic. This intrigued the audience because
of the actions in the footage in which they saw in the sneak peak. We
thought that we could have imitated other shows where they advertise
peoples work in our programme.
Like the previous programme we did, we
used the lighting from the green room
the change the settings of the room and
make it look appealing to our target
audience who are young people. We
thought that we could make it look like
other chat show weve seen like Graham
Norton, which has an older target
audience by looking at the settings of the
studio. Another shows is Loose Women, which has a female target
audience so they decorations and setting are bright colours in orer to
make it look more like a place for females.

Target audience
The target audience for our show was a
BBC Three audience, which has a lot
of young people. The topic of our show was about films
and the opportunities in the film industry for young
people. This made the target audience seem like they
were involved in the topic and would have encouraged
them to watch the show since that we interviewed
professionals mainly. We thought of interviewing
people who were relevant to each topic. For
example, Nathan interviewed a short film director
and lecturer at Ravensborne, Ben
Mallaby, about the film industry and
advice. This was relevant because and can get our target audience to
watch our programme especially if their interested in and they decide to
become future filmakers.

Comparison to other
presenters/shows
A show I looked at that I compared to our show
is an interview from Channel 4 involving Robert
Downey Jr. I looked at this because we had to
interview professionals in the film industry so I decided to
watch how other people managed to interview people. In this
interview, Robert Downey Jr was angry
because the interviewer didnt ask him any
question relating his latest work. We will make
sure that our interview will relate to the
interviewees in order to make sure that getting
them interviewed was worth their trouble.
Unlike this presenter, we will make sure to
stick on the topic and build bridges in order to
receive a lot of information from our
interviewees. However, I like the camera shots used in this interview and
how the camera focuses on the guest and it slightly shows the presenters
body language. This is how we did for our interviews because it made us
seem professional and well mannered.

Goodness Duru

Overall, I believe that this chat show was

amazing and brought a lot of fun and
entertainment. For example, the decisions we have
made through us meeting up and start discussing
things we needed to do to make our show
appealing to BBC Three. For example, things
such as green screen

the

In conclusion, from creating all of the

programmes, I have learnt a great amount of
how shows and other
programmes are structured. You can see
that there is a noticeable difference in
terms
of quality from Teen Proof to Friday Night
with
KGN as we developed our skills over time. We
managed to learn how to manage time
when
preparing our interviews. For example, in
other programmes, we would just get whoever we
could find to be our interviewees whereas now, we
actually went and email mainly
professionals and tried to arrange a time
for them to be interviewed. We also did
things that were fun like other chat shows did such as
challenges and games. For example, we looked at shows such
as
Jimmy Fallon when he did a lip sync battle with Will
Ferrell and Kevin Hart. We decided to do a lip syncing
battle to entertain the target audience. Even though
it
doesnt have anything to do with film, we decided
that
this would get people happy since that
young people like to listen to music and it
would get them to sing along with us. To make the lip-sync battle more
entertaining, we keyed the background and added effects on the footage
to make it seem more live. In the programme, we tried as much as
possible to keep the audience entertained by the way we presented the
show throughout and made it look like we had a good time. I also believe
that we have improved in our interview techniques after each interview
we did because of the experience of being on camera and handling the
pressure. This is probably due to the amount of times we interviewed
people which boosted our confidence. We also made this programme
better than our previous time because of the decisions we did such as
managing time and looked at who we were going to interview whereas
before, we would just interviews whoever we seem and had knowledge of
the topic we wanted to talk about.
