Course Description
The Project: CoRe Manager, Inspire & Connect training program is part of
the Biogenius Series. The training will provide a train-the-trainer
opportunity for the CoRe Managers in order to enhance their
presentation abilities and to have more of an impact as they learn how
to connect with the audience in a deeper and more versatile way. They
will learn how to do this by guiding their audience through specific
learning activities and discussions appropriate for a variety of audiences
that will provide for a more connective and impactful experience. The
training consists of guidance from SMEs as well as collaborative learning.
Each Regional Team of CoRe Managers will collaborate, using their skills
and knowledge to enhance one of the four new presentations that will be
approved in 2015. They will then present the enhanced version of the
presentation to the rest of the CoRe Managers and management team,
where they will be evaluated based on the ranking scale evaluation form
that is currently handed out to attendees. After best practices are
developed, the enhanced version of the presentations will be distributed
to the entire CoRe team with speaker notes that describe the
enhancements developed by each Regional CoRe team.

Target Audience
Analysis

Delivery Modality
O Pre-Work: The two new CoRe Conversations will be emailed to the

CoRe Managers two weeks prior to the training so that they can
get comfortable with the content.
O The method of instructional delivery for the Project: CoRe
Manager/Inspire and Connect training is an in-person experience.
O The training itself will consist of instruction given by Subject
Matter Experts (SME) who will give perspective on the content, on
the Motivational Framework and on presentation skills in general.
(Wlodkowski & Ginsberg, 2011)
O SME training will be followed by individual research time and
collaboration with team members on how to integrate their
learning to create more powerful presentations.
O At the conclusion, each team will collaborate on their assigned
presentation to develop best practices and then will present to
the group at which time they will be evaluated.

Length of Course
The CoRe Manager training will last a total of four days:
O Day 1: SME training
O General presentation skills
O Ice-breakers, Learning Activities

O Day 2: SME training continued, individual research

O Make it memorable: tell a story, personal connection
O Motivational Framework audience considerations
O Research and select: story, ice breakers, learning activities to

present to team
O Day 3: Team Work:
O Present individual research findings or ideas, Collaborate with team

to develop best practices

O Day 4: Practice and delivery
O Practice presentation as a team
O Deliver to entire group and receive evaluation

Goals
O CoRe Managers will have the confidence to present in a professionally

and competent manner as they develop content mastery and

professionalism in the delivery.

O CoRe Managers will learn new techniques and ideas that will help them

make the presentation memorable through a great story, personal

connection, or relating the concept to an appropriate theme.

O CoRe Managers will develop skills that will help them engage the

audience and help them connect words to actions. This will help the
audience to bridge the concepts and make it real.

O CoRe Managers will be able to adapt the CoRe Conversation

presentations to a variety of audiences/situations with the use of the

Motivational Framework and selected Learning Activities that are
appropriate for each audience.

Objectives
Presentation Style: Make it Memorable
By the end of the training, the CoRe Managers will be able to create a list of four
or more stories that they can choose from for each presentation from either their
own research, collaboration with their regional team, or from hearing
presentations from other teams.
Engagement & Connection: Words into Actions
The CoRe Managers will be able to describe at least three ice-breakers that can
be used to help the audience feel comfortable. By the end of the training
session, they will also be able to describe three methods which can be used to
help the audience connect content to their lives.
Adaptability: Audience and Venue Diversity
By the end of the training, the CoRe Managers will create a list of at least four
hands-on learning activities that will engage kinesthetic and visual learners.
Professionalism & Competence: Trust and Credibility
The CoRe Managers will be able to present in a clear and precise manner, and
exhibit an awareness of body language (eye contact, hand placement,
movement) and professional style by the end of the training session.

Competence

COLLABORATIVE
The CoRe Manager will then present
the stories to their regional team and
create a list that they could use for
different types of audiences. The
team will then decide which story to
include in the final presentation
based on the options presented as a
group.
The CoRe Manager will present the
ice-breakers and learning activities to
their Regional team. The team will
then decide which activity to include
in the final presentation based on the
options presented as a group.
The CoRe Manager will present the
hands-on learning activities to their
Regional team. The team will then
decide which activity to include in the
final presentation based on the
options presented as a group.
Each CoRe Manager will present the
final presentation to each other and
will record it, providing feedback on

Formative Evaluation
Formative evaluation based on Smith & Ragans
approach*:
O 1:1 feedback, small group feedback, and field test

analysis.
O Selected one CoRe Manager for each region to
evaluate for depth and breadth of training: does
training meet needs of improving presentation
skills and providing a toolkit of activities and
resources to enable the CoRe Managers to be
better able to connect information to community
members, giving information of value that they
can use in their daily lives, and establishing
rapport to be a resource for future education, etc.

Evaluation Process &

Timeline

Members of CoRe
"FIT" team to vote on
top 4 ice-breakers,
stories, learning
activities to be
officially
implemented

Two month follow up call with all

CoRe Managers to get feedback on
field experience. Adjustments to
presentation for content depth and
bredth made at this point.

Summative Evaluation
The same evaluation forms are given to
CoRe Managers during post-training that
are given to community members after the
CoRe Conversations are given in the field.
These evaluations are based on a rating
scale which requires the evaluator to score
the presentation based on certain criteria
such as: appropriate length, depth of
content, relevancy to life, etc.

Conclusion
Based on a training request from the CoRe
Managers to improve the flexibility of the
CoRe Conversations to be adapted to their
particular audiences, and their desire to
become the best of the best presenters in
the industry, a needs analysis was
conducted. The CoRe Managers were
surveyed to see what types of training was
needed and how to better the CoRe
Conversations so that there would be more
flexibility and interaction.

Conclusion
There were four specific areas for
training that came out of the needs
analysis:
O General presentation skills
O Making a presentation memorable
O Helping the audience connect
content to life
O Flexibility to adapt learning
activities/stories to the needs of the
audience

Conclusion
Based on the Needs Analysis, goals and
objectives were developed. The training can be
implemented in the annual CoRe Training that
takes place when new CoRe Conversations are
developed. This will help to minimize time out of
territory and will also help the training be more
targeted. A timeline and resources were
identified. Both formative and summative
evaluations will help to ensure that the training
as it is being developed is on track. The
summative evaluation will provide feedback on
what changes or follow up are needed.
