You have received a letter from the National Visa Center (NVC) scheduling an appointment for
you to come to the American Embassy in Lima and formally apply for an immigrant visa. All
members of your family included in the case must appear for the appointment. This
informational package will assist you in preparation for your visa interview. Please read
the entire packet carefully.
PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT BRING ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO YOUR
APPOINTMENT AT THE EMBASSY YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CONDUCT
YOUR INTERVIEW.

If you have previously paid all fees to the National Visa Center, there will be no
additional fees to pay on the day of the interview.
No assurance can be given in advance that a visa will be issued on the day of interview.
Do NOT make any travel arrangements, purchase airline tickets, dispose of any property,
or give up employment until the applicant receives the visa.
The visas are affixed inside each passport and the applicant is given a sealed envelope
which should be hand carried, UNOPENED, to the United States and submitted to the
immigration inspector at the U.S. port-of-entry.
** Interview Preparation **
You are responsible for ensuring that all required documents are available at the time of the
interview. While you may have previously submitted the majority of required documents to the
NVC, there are additional documents that you need to bring with you to your interview. If you
submitted photocopies of documents to the NVC, you should also bring originals of those
documents to your interview.
Passport and Pictures: The passport must be valid for at least 6 months. You must bring two
pictures. The pictures must meet the requirements listed in page 6.
Form DS-260: You must fill out this form on-line prior to your interview. You do not need to
print the form. We will receive a copy electronically after you fill it out. You can fill out the
DS-260 at: https://ceac.state.gov/IV/Login.aspx
Original Birth and Marriage Certificates: .
If you are petitioned by a U.S. citizen son, daughter, sibling, you must present the birth
certificate for the petitioner.
If you have children, bring the birth certificate for each one
Divorce Decree: You must bring a copy of the official divorce decree issued by a judge in the
location in which you were divorced. A notation on your marriage certificate is not sufficient
evidence of a divorce. You must bring a copy of the full decree.
Police Records: Records are required from your country of current residence and country of
nationality. Records are also required from countries of previous residence if residency was for

more than one year, except for the United States. There are three Peruvian police records
that you must provide:
Peruvian police records, known as Certificado de Antecedentes Policiales, can be
obtained at the police station in your local jurisdiction.
Peruvian judicial records, known as Certificado de Antecedentes Judiciales a Nivel
Nacional, can be obtained at: INPE, Avenida Alberto del Campo, 1050, Magdalena del
Mar
Peruvian prison records, known as Certificado de Antecedentes Penales, can be obtained
at: Av Abancay, Poder Judicial
IF YOU ARE MISSING ANY OF YOUR THREE PERUVIAN POLICE RECORDS, YOU
WILL BE TURNED AWAY AT THE APPOINTMENT.
Court Records: Persons arrested for any reason in the United States (or any other country), or
who have been deported/removed or have any judicial/prison record must present copies of ALL
documents related to the case, even if there was amnesty or other act of clemency or even if the
person was found innocent or the charges were dropped.
Medical Examination: All immigrant visa applicants, regardless of age or gender, must
complete (schedule and attend) their medical examinations with authorized physicians before
their scheduled interview dates. IF YOU HAVE NOT STARTED YOUR MEDICAL
EXAMINATION PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED

U.S. visas previously issued: If you have obtained any type of U.S. non-immigrant visa (for
example, tourist visas, student visas, work visas, etc.) you must bring those with you to your
interview.
Evidence of relationship: If your status as an intending immigrant depends upon a relationship
established between an alien and a United States citizen or legal permanent resident, please be
prepared to present suitable documentation to establish the bona-fides of that relationship at the
time of your immigrant visa interview. The type of documentation you present will depend on
your particular circumstances.
Marital relationship: concrete evidence to support your claim to a visa based on
marriage or engagement. Some examples:
Photos from you and your spouse taken before, during and after the marriage
Birth certificates of any children born of the marriage
Correspondence exchanged between you and your spouse (letters, e-mails)

Telephone bills with calls from the petitioner to the visa beneficiary
Copy of passport pages from any trips your spouse has taken to visit you
Life and medical insurance policies indicating beneficiaries
Any other convincing documentation that shows that you and your petitioning spouse
have or will have a joint residence and have formed an economic and material union.
These may include but are not limited to, Lease/Mortgage held jointly, Utility Bills,
Evidence of Joint Accounts, Rent Receipts, Joint bank and credit accounts, etc.
Note: You are not required to bring all of these documents. Please bring any evidence
you feel convincingly shows that you are in an ongoing relationship.
Step-child relationship: The applicant must bring evidence of the relationship between
the step-parent and the biological parent, and between the applicant and the biological
parent.

Photographs taken over a period of years of yourself and your relative

Si usted previamente ya pag al NVC todos los costos relacionados con el proceso de la
visa de inmigrante, no hay costos adicionales que deba pagar el da de su entrevista.
No podemos asegurarle por anticipado que su visa ser aprobada el da de su entrevista.
Se le recomienda NO realizar ningn plan de viaje, comprar pasajes areos, vender
sus propiedades, o renunciar a su trabajo hasta que reciba su visa.
La visa estar pegada en una pgina de su pasaporte y cada solicitante recibir un sobre
sellado que debe ser llevado a la mano y CERRADO a los Estados Unidos y entregado al
inspector de inmigracin en el puerto de entrada de los Estados Unidos.

Generalmente estas evidencias deben cubrir un perodo de algunos aos. Si usted no cuenta
con la evidencia descrita anteriormente, el oficial consular podra recomendar una prueba de
