Jay-Z Breaks into Sports Representation

Through His Partnership with CAA

Signs Robinson Cano as his First Athlete

A Jack of many trades, rap artist and music mogul,

Shawn Jay-Z Carter, has recently decided to add
another notch in his belt, and joined forces with one of
the biggest names in sports.
Carter is making his way into the sports-agent business
through his partnership with the leading sports and
entertainment agency CAA and his company Roc Nation
Sports.
Not only has the star landed an unprecedented deal
with CAA, but he also has stolen Yankees star Robinson
Cano from the powerhouse baseball agent, Scott Boras.
Carter is temporarily licensed to represent professional
baseball players; it isnt far fetched to believe he
will probably soon pursue representing football and
basketball players also.
Being a sports agent and owning a firm that reps
athletes is a very highly specialized business that
has many similarities with Jays experience in the music

business. The mogul has been President of Def Jam

Records for a number of years, as well as running his
multiple other businesses, such as RocaWear, Carols
Daughter and the 40/40 Club.
However, breaking into the sports field is something a
tad different than the entertainment field. Many question
whether the star has what it takes to build the clout in
sports that he has in the entertainment field.
Only time will be able to determine his fate in the
athletic world, but it is obvious that Carter is well on his
way in his attempts to leave his mark.
Jay Z and his team at Roc Nation have successfully
orchestrated powerful brand and business-building
opportunities for their clients, said Michael Levine, CoHead of CAA Sports, in a statement. We look forward
to combining our wide-reaching resources on behalf
of top athlete clients like Robinson Cano to help them
accomplish their goals on and off the field. S
