It is our belief that continuing education
in college health nursing includes
planned, organized educational activities
intended to expand the knowledge, skill
and attitudes of the nursing staff. To
comply with the A.C.H.A. standard we will
apply evidenced-based approaches to
college health care and health care
promotion. To meet this goal we are
establishing the T.C.U. Journal Club.
Why a Journal Club?
 To promote a better understanding of the
research process.
To evaluate new research.
To discuss the implication of research in
relationship to current clinical practice.
To collaborate with co-workers in developing
new practices.
What is a Journal Club?
 A journal club is a collective effort to keep up
with nursing literature.
 Issues and problems are identified by
assessing one of these
…..a student-based need.
…..a health center-based need.
…..a campus-based need.
…..a national health care priority.
How does a Journal
Club work?
A mandatory monthly meetings in conjunction
with a Brown Bag Lunch or Potluck Supper.

Journal club members take turns leading

presentations.

Once a topic is identified by the group and a

leader is selected. The leader conducts a
research study and then presents the findings
to the group.

relevant articles. Offer interpretations.
Review a minimum
Use opinions, issues
of three articles for
validity, significance criticisms to frame
and questions to
stimulate discussion.
At the Conclusion of
each club meeting
An evaluation by all members of the topic that
includes but is not limited to it’s application to
our clinic, whether a change is indicated and
whether further research is necessary.
A new topic will be selected for the next
meeting.
 A leader will be identified to present the next
topic.
