To Whom It May Concern: It is a pleasure to recommend Lida Smiley to you for consideration for an elementary teaching position. I supervised Ms. Smiley during her final internship in the Unified Early Childhood Proteach Program at the University of Florida during fall semester 2014. I observed her teaching repeatedly both formally and informally in her kindergarten classroom. I reviewed construction of her lessons and observed her implementation of instruction and follow-up activities. One of Ms. Smileys strengths is her ability to plan and implement lessons using her creativity and the structure of the curriculum to meet appropriate grade-level expectations and standards. Her lessons were well organized, focused, and designed to support the learning of all students. In each of my observations Ms. Smiley provided clear plans, a combination of direct instruction, cooperative learning and hands-on or demonstration activities. She was adept at connecting her students life experiences with prior classroom learning as well as integrating across subject matter. Additionally, Ms. Smiley excelled at reflecting on the effectiveness of her lessons using both student work and observations in order to meet the learning needs of all students. She was adept at improving both planning and delivery of lessons in order to meet identified needs. As a student, Ms. Smiley was an engaged learner. She actively participated with her peers, came prepared to seminar, and completed all assigned tasks with both creativity and accuracy. Ms. Smiley clearly connects her content knowledge learning to her own professional growth as a future educator. Ms. Smiley is mature, responsible, personable, and competent. I am confident that she will prove to be an effective teacher who will be respected by both students and parents.
