History of Babe Ruth
George Herman "Babe" Ruth Jr. was an American Major League Baseball
outfielder and pitcher who played for 22 seasons, from 1914 through 1935. He was born
in Pigtown, Baltimore, Maryland in February 8, 1895. Babe Ruth is most recognized for
his many record breaking accomplishments and for being a role model for any sport
fanatic in the 1920s. Babe Ruth saved baseball in 1920, after the Black Sox scandal of
1919, left fans disillusioned with the game President William Howard Taft called a
"Clean, straight game!" In 1910, Americans stayed away from the ballparks. After that
issues, he was known for his love of children and was always seen helping out at
orphanages and visiting sick children. Throughout the rest of his career Ruth would
inspire the awe of millions of fans and put baseball back into national spotlight. Later, on
August 16, 1948, Babe Ruth died, leaving much of his estate to the Babe Ruth
Foundation for underprivileged children.
