INTRODUCTION TO THE SENIOR PROJECT

I. Topic/Grade Level: Introduction to the Senior Project 12th Grade Students

Standards:
Writing Standards for Literacy in Social Studies and Technical Subjects 612
7. Conduct short as well as more sustained research projects to answer a question (including a selfgenerated question) or solve a problem; narrow or broaden the inquiry when appropriate; synthesize
multiple sources on the subject, demonstrating understanding of the subject under investigation.
III.Goals and Student Learning Outcomes:
GOALS: Students will be provided with the QR code to an example project from a student
who is presenting her Senior Pathway Project. Students will have the opportunities to ask
questions and review the materials which they will be utilizing to create their portfolios.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Students will be shown a short tutorial on how to build
a Weebly website. Students will have the opportunity to create their layout with necessary tabs
so that they may upload their work throughout the unit. Students will be notified that they will
be completing career research essays, career interviews, career cover letter, career resume, an
application (college, job, vocational school etc.) as well as their final presentation on all
information gathered.
Goal 1: Students will view the sample presentation, tutorials on QR codes and Weebly
Student Learning Outcome 1: Students will know the entire details of the project they
are beginning
Student Learning Outcome 2: Students will understand how to create a QR code
Goal 2: Students will create a Weebly account
Student Learning Outcome 1: Students will create layout for their website
Student Learning Outcome 2: Students will know how to upload necessary items to the
website.

Learning Environment(s):
This lesson will take place with direct instruction and blended learning through the
use of technology. Students may also work in small groups.

Diversity / Differentiation:

All senior students will participate in the lesson. Students who have IEPs will be
assisted by the resource teacher through their SAI service time, before, during, or
after the direct instruction.

Technology Inclusion:
The educator will distribute IPads and/or laptops to each of the students so they
will be able to view and work with the websites necessary. Students will view the
presentation example and website tutorials via Apple TV or other presentation
software available in the classroom. QR codes will be accessed.

VIII. Prior Knowledge: Prior to this lesson, students have: accessed their Naviance accounts to
view the data that is representative of their career choices, personality types, and learning
styles.
Lesson Placement in the Unit: This is lesson 1 of 10

Procedures:
1. Lesson Introduction / Anticipatory Set:
Teacher will make sure that every student is issued a laptop or IPad in order to access
online material. Students will have previous reviewed their Naviance personality test,
career options, and learning styles on their own and in other course assignments.
Teacher will ensure everyone has their Naviance and Weebly account logins.
2. Direct Instruction:
Teacher will introduce students to the items that they will be learning about and
including to their portfolios through their activities. Teacher will guide students
through their Naviance surveys and have students select which educational and career
paths they would most like to pursue. Teacher will show video of what the final
presentation may look like to give students an idea of where they are heading. The
teacher will show students how to use the QR code reader that is installed on their IPad
or laptop and demonstrate how they will use the QR code to compact their final website
URL into a scanable image. The teacher will then also show and walk through students
in a tutorial of building their Weebly website. Teacher will then have students begin to

create their basic layouts of their websites so they can upload items as the unit
continues. Students should create basic layout with different tabs.
3. Student Interaction with lesson content / Guided Practice:
For the most part students will be listening to direct instruction and following the lead
of the teacher. The students should understand the material they are accessing and have
an idea of what the end product will look like. Studnets have already been familiarized
with Naviance. Students will be able to explore Weebly and begin to experience the
building of their websites.
4. Independent Practice:
Students will work independently or in small groups to get their basic layout of their
websites completed. If any students have not created the layouts by the end of the
instructional period then homework will be to finish it.
5. Review / Closure:
Teacher will review every students layout of the website and ensue all students are
clear on what is happening and what the end goal will be.

Evaluation/Assessment:
Assessment for this lesson will be strictly up to the discretion of the teacher to ensure
students are prepared to embark on this project.
